TFL Youtube channel tests Ford Lightning EV truck's towing range vs gas powered truck

They tested the range of a Ford Lightning against a V8 GMC Sierra with both pulling identical 6,000 pound camping trailers. They drove from Longmont CO to Castle Rock on the interstate. The route was not through the mountains, it was relatively flat with only a change in elevation of 1000 feet overall and it was a warm day.
The gas powered truck got 9 mpg and a range of 220 miles on a full 24 gallon tank.
The Lightning only got 95 miles of range, which is a little surprising to me considering the optimal conditions. The driver was getting serious range anxiety before he made it to the charging station. It took 45 min charging to get back to 75% charge.
Youtube
Edit: The Lightning they used had the extended range battery. A regular range Lightning would have gotten a lot less range.

I’m glad they did the test but I don’t think the results are a surprise to anyone. This is one of the main drawbacks to an electric truck being used for truck activities.

I was debating this with a neighbour - I say there's a large group of folks who don't care that much about towing range but still want a full sized truck. Something like 90% of Americans live within 50 miles of a Lowes or Home Depot. The people who don't wouldn't want an electric truck anyhow.
With that said, I'm happy waiting on my Cybertruck and it's superior ranges.

Why would the car companies mislead us on this?!

Hipsters are gonna love the Cybertruck until they have to park it at Whole Foods. The thing is going to be massive.

Yeah it's right in my personal wheelhouse but I kind of expect it to be Teslas first dud (at least relatively speaking). I'm worried it never gets released.

Heck I live in Larose. And I don't think I could make it to the island and back home without a recharge at the dock.
Speaking of charging stations, any baws know of a Supercharger on the island or in Fourchon.

To me electric vehicles are a second vehicle and used for trips close to home. A truck/SUV is my go to vehicle for long range reliability.

Sounds like an awesome truck!
Good thing they had the camper with them. So they can half sleep, half drive all day long.

I've been told this isn't enough range.

Not to me considering battery tech is still quite young.

If you want an electric truck for work and pull a decent weight trailer you will have to be sure your work space is less than 40 miles from home.

Open trailer with 6k does not drag as much as a camper

I would be willing to bet money you will never see a charging station south of Raceland.

You should think about this statement.
