I was debating this with a neighbour - I say there's a large group of folks who don't care that much about towing range but still want a full sized truck. Something like 90% of Americans live within 50 miles of a Lowes or Home Depot. The people who don't wouldn't want an electric truck anyhow.

With that said, I'm happy waiting on my Cybertruck and it's superior ranges.

And I'm waiting to get the opportunity to order a Ford Lightning. But I am considering holding on to my 2007 Toyota Tundra now.

15mpg when towing well over 6k pounds

Not driving like a normal human it doesn't. My new diesel 3/4 ton doesn't do that good towing 6k if I don't baby the shite out of it.

We are about to see a ton of trailers and campers parked along the interstates, while the driver accesses the closest charging station

Or the loads will quickly disappear because some enterprising young felon invested in an ICE

No. Those people will not get EVs to tow heavy stuff.

Probably a stupid question, but can an EV truck back a boat fully down a ramp? Is water an issue w it?

I bought a car last week just so I can stretch the life of my truck out as long as possible. These days a diesel pickup truck is an asset. It's gone up in value since I bought it despite me driving the shite out of it.

Grand Isle? I can’t get to The Rigolets and back on that.

Imagine living in the West Bank and trying to get to end of Hwy 23 in Venice.

You would be lucky to make it to Buras.

Just wait until the ICE is banned on boats. How buoyant are the batteries, and how long will they run a boat motor? Get your oars, sails, and push pole ready to get to your fishing spot.

Why cant we have more hybrid vehicles like jeep did with the wrangler. Its a perfect mix. Just enough electric to save you money on your normal commute but have the gas as a backup or to pull something like a boat or utility trailer.

This is why legacy automakers will flounder trying to get into the EV market. They tried to get ahead of Tesla on the electric truck. The problem is the range doesn't offer the utility needed for towing. They should have sidelined this project and tried to make an EV Taurus or fusion or SUV imo

Just wait until, they try to start converting tractor trailers for EV use.

I wonder if they will sacrifice trailer space for batteries. Also, you could use trailers as hot swappable batteries and do runs between depots to drop a trailer off so it can charge, and the driver picks up a fully charged trailer and a new load.

If it is a cross country single truck freight good luck trying to find batteries to last 11 straight hours for driving a tractor trailer and charge it in 10 hours during your non driving time.

There are still a lot of people looking for a truck that do not need to tow or do not need to tow 5000+ lbs. Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick sales are proof. There is room in the market for an electric truck and the people that will buy them likely will not be towing, but just need more utility than a sedan or cross over.
