Soviet Venus probe launched in 1972 could smash into the Earth on May 10
Posted by Diseasefreeforall on 4/29/25 at 6:36 pm
The 1100 lb probe had a malfunction after launch and got stuck in a really long orbit around the earth.
After all these years that orbit has decayed to where it's going to re-enter the atmosphere.
Since it was made to survive re-entry into Venus' atmosphere, it might survive Earth's this time and make it to the ground or water.
At this point there are too many unknows with it's path and how it will interact with the atmosphere to predict where it will land.
It does have a parachute but will probably be going too fast for it to work if it is even deployed as the batteries to trigger the chute are old.
So if you hear a big thud in your backyard next month, maybe it's a vintage commie space souvenir.

If I was in his position I'd hire an agent to handle my affairs, a sensible live-in housekeeper for companionship and fly in all the expensive hookers I wanted.

No way was Jimmy gonna pass up that chance to hack Brooks.

I may be wrong but i don't think todays NBA and NFL athletes are on PEDs. If they are, it's surely a less rate than the 90s and 00s. Too many mouths to keep quiet.
Olympic sports, track and field are a different story though.
Lebron and Brady defy age but they're still an outlier. LeBron and Curry will be the only post age 31 players on All NBA this year.
Where as their peers showed a normal age decline. Melo, Wade, Chris Paul out of the league. Peyton, Big Ben, Brees declined.
PEDs will always be used when there's money to be made. Not by everybody but by a good portion, probably a majority. The NFL and NBA are no different.
There's an old saying, doping can't turn a donkey into a racehorse. Just because somebody uses PEDs doesn't mean they can achieve greatness or find the fountain of youth. Genetics matters.
Lebron is a racehorse not only with his athletic ability but longevity, likely helped by PED use. He's an outlier. Almost all people that have smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day for decade after decade don't live to be 90 years old but there are some outliers that do.
There are always outliers but time eventually catches up to those too. Lately Lebron has looked like he's ready to fall of the athletic cliff soon.

I knew dudes in college that juiced to look good for the ladies but that's probably not a good idea as far as long-term effects.
I came to the conclusion a long time ago that exercise is good for you, competitive sports aren't because you're forced to push your body to the extremes, including with PEDs.
Eat healthy, avoid highly processed food, get enough vitamin D year round and you'll be doing better than the vast majority of the population. If you want a supplement, GlyNAC has showed very promising results in staving off problems with aging:

Reeves got a good shot to tie but it just didn't go in.

In Haslam's case ripping off trucking companies that frequented his truckstops helped.

Having his number retired is ridiculous but Shedeur is the third best QB in the history of CU behind Kordell and Hagan.
Detmer was one of my favorited college players ever but Shedeur was better.

Seemingly an idiotic pick by Cleveland, and I thought they had drafted well to this point
Browns fans think Haslem stepped in to take Shedeur.

They drafted Gabriel in the 3rd, too.
I don't get drafting both when you have Pickett and Flacco. Why not just take the one you like and fill another need with the other pick.

If Deion had been a coach or GM of an NFL team I guarantee they would have drafted Shedeur.
re: Will Deion admit he ruined his kids chance at an NFL career?
Posted by Diseasefreeforall on 4/26/25 at 11:01 am
Shedeur will still probably have the chance to prove himself and it's not like the family is hurting for money so if he only gets a late round or UDFA paycheck it's not the end of the world.

Skinny Joe Thomas does not even remotely look like a former NFL OL.

We're to the point now where coaches can make the case for needing to be treated as well as student-athletes rather than the other way around.
Alex Caruso is one hell of a basketball player

Dominated the 4th quarter in the Thunder's comeback last night with 4 steals and some terrific defense. He was no doubt the best player on the floor down the stretch. Great pickup by Presti.
He is the white Tony Allen. I'm looking forward to the next round if it's Thunder Clips because Kawhi struggled against him in crunch time during the regular season.
He's been doing the same crazy high BB IQ stuff since A&M but his athleticism was consistently underrated. I didn't expect him to make the league.
