To Chase's credit, he tried it out for a bit but his heart wasn't in playing CB. Went to the coaches and they relented.

He tried at a camp for a few plays lol

Les Miles told Tre'Davious White he couldn't play WR.

Les Miles told Devin White he couldn't play RB.

Les Miles told Russell Shepard he couldn't play QB.

Video of chase explaining

That video makes the case that Miles may have been right in his assessment at the time he said that to Chase. Ja’Marr seemed to have used that feedback to get better.

This isn’t an example of Miles being an idiot (those examples exist), but an example of the value of knowledgeable coaches giving good feedback to athletes.

Up there with Hallman telling Marshall Faulk he was a DB!

Can you link your post saying Faulk would make a great RB BEFORE he set the records? Or the one about Chase? Dak? Anyone?

Talent evaluation is easy with hindsight, but let me point out something else that's missing from this conversation. Let's consider Chase and Patrick Peterson. In those two, LSU has produced two of the greatest of all time at their respective positions. But let's imagine that Peterson had been played at WR and Chase at CB. It's certainly possible that we would face the same outcome: Chase being one of the GOAT at CB and Peterson at WR. We'll never know.

Other things to consider: With Tyrann Mathieu's incredible ball skills and quickness, would he have been even more impactful at WR? How about Mo Claiborne? Would Joe Evans have been an AA at center?

But let's be honest.... Les didn't use the WR's when he was here. So he may have actually tried to do him a favor.

"Listen son, We don't throw the ball at LSU... you'll be playing DB"....

even after he got fired from LSU, he talked about the best way to beat Bama was to "attack their strength."

Absolute moron.
