The NCAA rules allow a player to play college basketball (under certain conditions) even if they previously played in pro league (Euro, G-Leauge, etc) as long as they haven't previously played college basketball. That why guys coming to college directly from the G-League and international pro leagues are eligible...because they didn't previously play college basketball. Luis doesn't fit that criterial. The NCAA also successfully argued in the Beadiko case that Beadiko was ineligible because he signed a NBA contract (2-way contracts are NBA contracts). Luis signed a 2-way contract with Utah. The NCAA's position is the signing of that contract is what made him ineligible...not actually playing any NBA games under it.

I understand how that case worked, but I also know from people who are highly familiar with the program the legal tactic will not be the same as that case. Allegedly it’s more about the validity of the rule where the bama case was akin to contract enforcement.

Not saying it will be a successful petition either.

His situation is more in line with Charles Beadiko. Best case scenario is a local judge would grant a TRO. However, the T stands for "temporary". I suspect the permanent ruling would fall more in line with the Beadiko ruling.

If you want to make the argument, go ahead. However, if I were advising Wade I would tell him not to count on Luis being a part of the roster and to plan accordingly...which I'm sure Wade is.

From people who are in the know, that's not the argument they intend to make. They will argue the rule itself, and if and the allowance of international pros and g leaguers to play pro ball and still be eligible then RJ Luis should be no different if he never stepped on an NBA court.

This is the reason for the backlash for Wade, what he is doing could kill any international ever playing CBB again or just bust this whole thing wide open. Hence this quote:

“You’re being an idiot a**hole for the sake of being an idiot a**hole. What you’re doing is f***ing it up for everyone else."
quote:

I don't see any world in which Luis get cleared to play in. Wade has to have a plan in place for this. It’s worth a shot but I know he has to have other things going on behind the scenes to bring in some additional pieces.

He wont be cleared by the NCAA, but if we have support from the local Judiciaries that wont matter. Injunctions, delayed hearings, appeals etc. We could conceivably lose the case next April and still get a full year out of these guys.

The way it works over there for soccer and basketball are similar. Kids will be scouted and entered into academies(club youth programs) as young as 7-10 years old. Very similar to IMG here, full time school and training. Those go until age 16-18 where starting at 16 you can be signed to a contract and play professional for these clubs. This is why the euro pros are allowed in college, they dont have sports in high school, and if they are decent they will be signed to a contract as a future prospect(similar to MLB teams signing international kids at 16).

If you are good enough, some of these academies will move you and your whole family over from an under developed nation to put you in their pipeline.

t's most likely at SM instead of Beaver Creek because they want it in Baton Rouge and not 45 minutes north of it.

This would make sense if either of the courses were in Baton Rouge.
College sports is a uniquely American thing. In Europe competitive sports are done in clubs. Anyone and any age can participate, although some of the competitions are age capped. Essentially, the neighborhood clubs are the same as clubs like Real Madrid, Barca, etc., just on a higher or lower level. The divisions and promotions are way to complicated and vary for each sport.

The clubs can run soccer, basketball, rugby and what ever else they chose, although some stick to a single sport.
I play the ZXi5 and the one thing they don’t do is fly low.

I have played the mizuno 921,923 Taylor made 790, and even had a set of Takomo 201 from a buddy for a month. ZXi5 are by far the most consistent, I wouldn’t really call them distance compared to 790 or 923 hot metal. Just a stable high launch iron that plays pretty similar from heel to toe.

Why would it cost more? I've already outlined that clubs with Similar if not more expensive guest fees are a part of the Q round. Feels more like just going with the status quo.

Hell, Bayou Desiard and Southern Trace are hosting on a Saturday and Friday respectively. I've talked to the LGA guys before and they way its done is the price they pay per round doesn't vary, Every course gets the same. More likely what's happening is Santa is being over paid and providing sub par conditions.

What does that have to do with a course being in terrible condition?

Am Qualifying Santa Maria

The State Am BR Qualifier is once again at Santa Maria in 10 days. Played there this week and its not fit for that in the least. Bear spots on greens, questionable tees, and the bunkers are an absolute joke.

Why cant they move this to another course in the area? Surely UClub or CCLA could spare a Monday morning to host Championship style golf. Ellendale, Southern Trace and Bayou Desiard all host a Q round.

The non qualifiers who end up paying $200 to play that goat farm will be miffed for more than one reason.
In my opinion, golf tech is more interested in booking more lessons than actually trying to get you right. From personal experience and other friends having similar stories, they are going for full swing reconstruction, single plane, data driven. For most that will require hours of lessons and practice.

I prefer a coach who is going fit a lesson for your swing. Minor adjustments like grip, stance, take away, etc. Golf Tech is trying to make your game perfect and that is very unlikely to happen even with tons of investment. The make it seem like you can play like a pro if you just take a million lessons and practice, but they leave out the part that natural skill is a major component.

For those looking to just shave some strokes, I recommend a local pro, they will be much more likely to coach you individually and not process you as a customer.
New flash, baseball fields outfield dimensions are not uniform…

This is always such a wired thing that some LSU fans fixate on and it’s pretty silly tbh. Both teams are playing in the same park, it’s not like the walls move back when we come up to bat. Just play the game.
This is asinine, Baseball gets tons of money respectively already.

The Athletic Department is signaling they are going to invest more in Basketball and that is a good thing for all sports. The top basketball programs bring in approx. 10 mil a year right now. It only makes sense to prioritize Basketball in the Rev Share era. Baseball will still get theirs but basketball is a far more important sport to the program as a whole and I'm glad the admins are recognizing that finally.
Why would Oats leave, he has about the same success rate at Bama that Davis had at UNC who just got fired. He's basically worshiped and Bama can match anything UNC wants to pay.

I get that, but they’re barely lower than some of the semi-private courses in the area.

Those courses don't do the volume Santa does and my guess is both price and location. I know Santa does a ton of rounds from people in Ascension. You are comparing it to courses that would take 1.5 hours round trip vs max 40 mins RT for those AP residents.

Raise the out of Parish price and they will get more money or less play, either one is a step in the right direction.

I added it late, but you can book either of those courses for $50 online prepaid. You can also get the BREC Card which is cheap for your pick of 5 courses.

All of this is just to say BREC golf runs cheap competitively due to the taxes invested in the system. I think people from WBR, Ascension, Livingston, etc should pay 15-30 more a round depending on the course and time if they aren't contributing to the BREC taxes. Annual passes should also be priced higher.

Find me any remotely comparable courses to Santa and Beaver in the area that are $65 on weekends. Its also only $50 if you pay online.

I'll hang up and listen...

One thing all BREC courses need to do is have different rates for parish residents. Giving non residents cheap golf at the expense of EBR tax payers has always bothered me. Many other counties and cities have similar rate structures for municipal courses.

I’d be willing to bet around 30% of the play at Santa comes from outside EBR
Yeah, I like the NBA rule, if its a genuine foul its 1 shot and ball back. If it is a foul like last night then you can call intentional and get two shots and ball back. That way you are punished either way for fouling before the ball is inbounded. Keeps the game moving.
