re: Dj Pickett week 2 film study

He looks a bit soft on the tackling skills. There was a screen where he tried to tackle the side of the guy and on the corner blitz, he didn’t seem to have the heart to lower the boom on the QB.
He’s Teddy Bridgewater / Jeff Blake. He can move, but he really doesn’t have the running playmaker gene.

Pouts all game, gives up on any throw he doesn’t deem as perfect, no emotion, as tough as a baby’s arse.
All off season, we said we need to survive the 1st quarter of the season to allow for the young OL to gel and develop some as well as Nuss and WR’s to mesh a bit more.

What changed?

3 and 14. If we lose today, 2 and 15.
So if he thinks they were out coached, he should just lie about it and tell us what we saw with our eyes didn’t happen?

You’ve been watching Trump too long.
Looks like he has some crazy burst or closing speed but not really the long speed.
Ole Miss
Bama

To a lesser degree, UF, A&M, OU.
Sage Ryan - the least instinctive player in football history. Hope he starts against us.
Gooden, Pybern, Payton all showed out on the line.

Delane, Cooley, Haulcey…. what a defensive transfer class! Wow!
Hopefully, he takes Chris Hilton out of the rotation, as that dude just doesn’t have it.
dude looked like trash as a prospect, would have bet my house on him sucking.
Not quite. I’m getting more of the ‘85 Bears vibe.
1st game of the season every year vs Tulane.

Yeah 2022 was just as bad on ST as 2023 was on defense. Also last year I have no clue WTF was going on between Slade Roy and Peyton Todd but we could not get a snap and hold down for a FG to save our lives it was ridiculous.

Forgot about that despite never seeing anything that shitty in my lifetime.
Same, I’m not buying it.

Additionally, in my LSU fandom lifetime and most of my generation, they would say it’s our biggest rival by more than a small margin.

Bama surely politicking but how good is Auburn going to be in this new era, Tennessee has rarely been good over the past 15 years. I guess they are back, but I’m not buying this unfair shite for Bama.

And Either (A&M, Ark, or Miss St) in many years could be just as hard as Bama’s 3.
I’ll start by saying I’ve been very happy with BK at LSU. I really appreciate the analytical nature and consistency in how he runs the program—it feels like a “Saban-lite” version of The Process.

That said, BK’s special teams have, without question, been the worst I’ve seen in my time as an LSU fan (going back to the Eddie Kennison days).

For decades, our coverage and return units were consistently among the strongest aspects of the team—until BK arrived. I’ve heard the struggles chalked up to a lack of depth, which I can understand to a degree, but it’s hard to buy completely. I don’t recall LSU teams of the 90s being stacked three-deep everywhere, yet special teams were still a weapon.

This year, though, there’s no excuse. We’ve got 3–4 legit LSU-caliber return threats (Brown, Thomas, Anderson, Watkins), and based on the two-deep, our coverage and return units should be loaded with dawgs.

I want the ball at the 40 after kickoffs again. I want consistent 15–25 yard punt returns. I want to see us flying downfield and knocking heads off on coverage.

Worst case scenario IMO, we are just good (floor) on Offense. I kind of think we have the same floor on D, maybe slightly lower.

However, If LSU makes special teams great again, that could be the difference between being a good team and being a great team this season.
quote:

I know what you tried to say. I'll take 17 returning starters all day and every single year. frick Ohio State. The same Clemson group last yr lost 1 more game than that 20 million did. Ill take chemistry and returning players all day.

Mentioning wins and loss record from teams from different conferences is so 1990.

Who the F cares that Clemson had a better record (barely) than us last year. They played UGA… the rest of their schedule was garbage. The one other mid to upper tier SEC team they played waxed their arse at home (South Carolina). SMU almost embarrassed them in the ACC championship.

I think their offense is average.

By all reasonable expectations, our Offense will be good to very good. Good is the floor as that was who we were last year.

By all reasonable observations, Our D is finally stacked again. We’ve got 2 real dudes at nearly every position. The past 3 years, we barely had a real dude at every other position.

Watch and bookmark this shite, we win by double digits…

A weak secondary becomes an elite secondary when three Dline is mauling the opponent.

How do we prevent that from happening?
