Ours was an abandoned Lab mix who showed up sleeping under the porch.
The family's first dog, she was smart, loyal, and saved the toddlers from water moccasins twice.
She proved herself so fast she was soon sleeping in the house.

I've had a foundling that had a lot of shepherd in her, a Belgian sheepdog, and an Australian shepherd.
The best two were the foundling and the Aussie. If I was going to get another dog, it would probably be another Aussie.
Belgian's are beautiful and there is nothing wrong with them. The foundling looked like a Belgian or a cross between a Belgian and a German Shepherd.

We had a chihuahua terrier mix as a child that kept the yard (several acres) cleared of snakes. She was awesome.

Smartest is our two goldendoddles. Most protective is our Golden Retriever. Most loving was Cocker Spaniel. Best chill out dog was terrier based mutt that recently died.
Dog I feared the most was a miniature poodle. Thing would not back down.
Had a few good mutts along the way.

Siberian Husky. Loving, happy all the time, independent. They're not for people who don't spend time with them or leave them outside though because they will escape.
