Basset/lab mix, hands down. Had a lab she was great, and I have two rescue mutts but that basador as they call them was something special.

Our Schnauzer / Terrier mutt named 'Snickerdoodle' was best dog I've ever had. Smart, a little bit bossy, but the most loving dog imaginable. She died this morning, choked on a chew btreat I gave her as I was on my way to work. A "Blue Buffalo Nudges Jerky Chews" and the maniac tried to eat it whole, it appears. Son found her a couple hours after I left. We are all still stunned. Lesson learned on those rawhide bone alternatives.

Chocolate Lab mixed with Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Mom was a Katrina rescue while she was pregnant with him. Great dog.

Have had some great dogs. Swore I would never own a poodle mix. Now have a mini golden doodle and an Aussie doodle. Once you have a dog that doesn’t shed you can never go back. And they are wicked smart.

Border Collie (she was absolutely bullet proof with kids, smart as can be)

Aussie Shepherd - a tie with the Border Collie, very brave (great venomous snake killer), fearless, tough, loves me the most, smart, saved my parents from great injury or worse

most loving/sweetest and laughter evoking dog...Frenchie(s)

Best disposition...Golden Retriever

Most intelligent...GSDs

Best dog at guarding the back door/house...2 different lab mix mutts I own/owned. One male, one female. Both are/were plum effing serious about keeping strangers at bay (and a few non-strangers too).
looking forward to how my GSDs adapt to the role of guard dogs.

Heeler mixes. Smart, obedient and loyal from the heeler side but the mix takes off their edge

I've had several types, and think they are all great in their own ways.

Always had German Shepherds growing up. Beautiful, smart, loyal. Great companions.

I got a Dachshund from a friend and had her for 14 years. She was the perfect dog for me as I moved around and lived downtown in cities. So smart. So fun. Perfect for playtime or just laying around. Was so easy to find people to keep her when I had to travel. I would get another one in a heartbeat after our kids are gone and we just need a lap dog.

Australian Shepherds are our current breed. Super smart, demand to be played with, and I probably wouldn't suggest them for everyone, especially if you have kids. They are a really fun breed that will fetch and work for you ALL DAY LONG.

My dad, who mostly had German Shepherds my whole life, moved over to border collies and they are amazing. They are working dogs and he has one that rides with him in the tractor every day. He can open a gate, and tell the dog to guard it... and cows won't dare approach the gate. He can also command him to push the cows THRU a gate. With a couple of these dogs, he can work a herd of cows by himself. They are like Aussies tho... if you let them get bored, they can tear shiat up.

Boxers because they are goofy, playful, and are great with kids.
