Only negative is all the shedding. But I shed a lot too so we're in this together.
We bought one of those self-emptying Shark vacuums and that thing runs all day long, but really cuts down on the fur in the house

In my lifetime I've had 5 golden retrievers.
All 5 have been the best dog ever. This includes the 2 year old good boi Ollie who's currently sleeping on my feet.
They are the only breed I'll ever own.

Rottweiler hands down. I'm on my third. I've had labs, GSD, Boxers, Fox Terriers, Great Danes, Chihuahua and Irish Setters.
They are an extra level of work for ownership but when you put the work in they are fantastic animals.

Doberman
very intelligent. Active yet lazy when i wanted him to be. loves doing stuff with me. Friendly yet protective.
the only thing is he's very clingy. "velcro dog". its sweet but sometimes you got to tell him to take some alone time.

Great Dane - you’ll be constantly entertained. Extremely loyal, protective, and great with kids. For a 150lb dog, they’re extremely docile too.

My parents had a Brittany and a Boykin Spaniel. They were both good dogs but the Brittany was a girl and was much calmer than the male Boykin.

I’ve always had at least 1 pug since I was a small child and I have one now, but our German shepherd/black lab mix is the best dog I’ve ever had.
Her temperament and obedience is amazing.
And one time about a year or so ago, after we moved to a new state, I’m at the park with my pug and lab/Shep mix and a pitbull got off its leash from its owner and charged and tackled my pug who was next to me, I didn’t even see it coming. My mixed girl who was not around, comes flying out of nowhere and knocks the pit bull off her sister, the pug, and began fricking up that pit bull.. the owner of the pit came running over and grabbed their dog and I grabbed mine. Luckily no bad injuries to any of the dogs besides some scratches but I’ll never forget that. Our shepherd/lab mix has never shown any aggression but when she saw her sister being attacked a fricking demon came out and she was ready to fight to the death for her.

Came in here to say this. My parents used to breed them when I was younger. Best dogs I've ever had.

I'm debating a bulldog but nervous because of how hot it is here. Did you have any problems with overheating?

Great Dane
However it's tough to handle heartbreak every 7-9 years.

Had these growing up. Good dogs.
We have a havanese now. He’s a bit of a pussy but great when our kids were little. He’s chill AF except when somebody comes to the door. He also bows up on big dogs and he’s 8 lbs.

Labrador Retriever. Color doesn't matter.
Very loyal, fun-loving, pack-oriented and great with kids. Only downside is the shedding.

My Doberman. A little energetic, but I never feel unsafe when I leave my house. They are so damn smart and have the most terrifying bark. They must guard 24/7 and never take the day off.

Australian Shepherd
Smart, easy to train, obedient, loyal. I’d have one now if I didn’t travel so much.
