Maybe. But maybe Slinger's play-calling put him in better situations to be successful. Again, Peetz won't be asked to call plays.

Need help understanding why retaining Peetz is a good idea

Maybe because he does have a good mind, is young, but as lots have said, was in way over his head as OC at this point in his career; and then O's concept of OC (Peetz doesn't call 3rd down and redzone???) was a huge disaster.

This almost sounds like a side-project for Kelly... fix Peetz as he fixes the program.

"No, dude, the world isn't really like that. When you call plays elsewhere, you get to call all the plays. That way, you get into a rhythm with what works. I might make a big call near the goal line, because I'm the HC and it's MY arse on the line; and btw that's because I understand offenses too and will help my coaches."

So you are saying that baker is staying?

It may or may noy be a good idea. But there are plenty of coaches who, when they go from position coach to coordinator, or coordinator to head coach, don't do well... but are successful again when they take a step back.

IMHO, the jury is still out on what Peetz brings to the table. I think he was a desperation hire by Orgeron, who was grasping to recapture "the Joe Brady offense" (after similarly wanting to capture the essence of the "west coast offense" he formerly idolized).

I don't think Peetz did well as OC. I also don't know how much Orgeron meddled, or if running back and receiver rotations made things harder for him. Remember: many people here bitched and complained about the position coaches (not Peetz) for receiver and RB rotations, especially if Bech was pulled off the field on critical third downs. Fwiw, I don't know who was responsible, or if it was as much a problem as some made it out to be.

Undoubtedly, these are things Kelly is considering. And if he ends up thinking Peetz can help the team in some capacity, it will likely be a far more reasoned decision than Orgeron's.

Do we know if there’s any interest from Golding? Could he be lobbying for a raise from Bama?

Peetz: May be staying on as an assistant... NOT OC. Apparently him and CBK are tight... lets hope my guy is wrong on this one

Why? Peetz is really good breaking down film and a really good offensive mind. He's just not a good play-caller at this point. He would be great in an analyst role.

He has already turned down 1 DC job, has another DC offer on the table with a G5 school. He likes it here though so it’s going to come down to whether or not he wants to be a DC next year.

He's under contract for next year. LSU has to pay him regardless.

He also has several kids. He and his family have lived in (now) three different places since 2018. Maybe they don't really want to move again so quickly if they don't have to. He could maybe stay on LSU's staff in some capacity, but not have to shoulder the burden as the primary play caller.

I get it. The profession is what it is. But we as fans just look at the individual coaches and forget that many have families that are affected with every new move.

I won’t say officially, but what I was told is it’s likely.

The last I heard regarding staff:
Raymond, Baker, Davis, were all staying, with Faulk unlikely. Raymond shocked the world, so you never know.

I don’t know much about Carter.

Do Peetz and Jones have buyout options after year 1 or do we owe all of the entire contract? Anyone know?

I dunno. Not against keeping Peetz on staff but our offense was 12 games of synchronized chaos. Peetz was in way over his head.
