And according to Wiki, Joe Brady is also the head coach of both the Jets and Texans, and a former member of Wu-Tang Clan.

If you're going this route just promote Call? He has more experience than this guy who can't stay anywhere more than a year. Call has coordinator experience and it seems people around the program think he could be our OC one day but they're slowly promoting him up seeing how he handles responsibilities. What gives O the confidence this guy can handle any OC duties with 0 experience doing so? Because Brady recommended him?

This would definitely so be an O hire and it would not inspire the fanbase at all. Same with Ricard on the defensive side.

If this happens what is Calloway's job that he was promoted too.

Calloway and Mangas would make for a crowded offensive group.

Mangas has coached WR and RB, Calloway has coached WR and QB.

We don't currently have a full-time TE coach, that position is manned by a GA.

I would be shocked if both Mangas and Calloway are hired for on-field positions.

I don't have anything against Mangas, but I wonder why LSU didn't make an effort to keeo him after last year,

Apparently O doesnt think enough of him yet to risk his job on it.

Wait what?? So is an O hire an older retread guy or is O known for hiring young highly thought of guys?

Yall are confusing the shite out of me

I personally think its the opposite, its O stepping out of his comfort zone. As much as I have railed about brady being the exception to the rule, there are not a lot of OCs that can even match what we did this year, much less last year.

Peetz is more an RPO guy and Callaway is more air raid. O apparently wants to stay RPO/Levels.

This is really no more risk than hiring anyone outside of Moorehead and maybe 4 other people. Everyone else is a risk pretty much.

What is there to like about this hire? I keep seeing this I'm being serious. Explain to me why this guy is so interesting? I don't know anything about him.

Thats how I feel and honestly he sucked, although he was very very young, when he was an OC.

Either we go heavy on offensive coaches and really light on defense or he stays an analyst or moves on.

No, his instance on constantly going to the NFL and thinking he's going to get someone like Brady again on top of his constant sitting around waiting for his "mentors" to give him recommendations to put on his short list. NCAA is loaded with plenty of potential OC targets they can hit that are not risky at all.

Forgive me if this doesn't give me confidence in a guy who seemingly gets blank checks on coaching hires to keep fricking up. He got 1 lightning in a bottle hire so far and the majority of the rest have been some really shitty ones. Wonder how boosters feel about these guys can't imagine this would excite them to write checks.

from the athletic article

The 37-year-old Peetz has an interesting bio, which includes a pair of one-year stops at Alabama under Nick Saban and stints on the offensive staffs of Jay Gruden in Washington and his brother Jon Gruden in Oakland. Peetz left the Raiders after the 2017 season to become the Colts’ offensive coordinator before Josh McDaniels backed out of the head-coaching job and stayed in New England.

Peetz’ offseason this year also has been eventful: He was blocked from interviewing with Ron Rivera in Washington, then switched from running backs to quarterbacks after being hired by Matt Rhule.

LINK

To me this is a much bigger endorsement. was going to be OC in Indy and then after going to the panthers, they thought enough of him to block him from interviewing with the Redskins.

from another article

quote:

Breer adds that Rivera wanted to take Peetz with him, but Carolina general manager Marty Hurney valued Peetz and the team decided to reward him with a promotion to quarterbacks coach.

also apparently, at least according to saturday down south, when he was at alabama he was known as the RPO guy.

LINK

quote:

Peetz was very involved in Nick Saban’s implementation of RPOs to highlight Tua Tagovailoa’s skill set. So Ron Rivera brings a young guy with fresh ideas in,” Breer wrote in a followup to the news of Peetz departure from Alabama.

One of Mangas or Calloway will have to either be an analyst or not be hired/retained.

Orgeron could also expect Peetz or Mangas to make a move in a year or two and is promising Calloway to replacement position.

Will be interesting to see. The word was that Calloway had already been hired as a position coach. That could be wrong.

I would say that there's more optimism in this hire, a guy who has worked with Brady and is recommended by him, than a retread or one of O's buddies.

It's a risk but he knows our offensive system so there is stability. He would also add new wrinkles to it to keep it innovative. No idea if he can recruit but with all our talent (assuming the o line can get it together) we will be able to get good players regardless of his recruiting ability. O is supposed to be a great recruiter so I don't worry about the OC being one.

It's a risk but I would rather the risk and fail than play it safe and likely middle out for another 2 years before the safe hire is inevitably canned.
