This board was filled with Riley and Napier and then Kelly out of left field.

We have to change our mindset.

So you’re saying we should get Schumann or Key

I’m saying that paying $14 million for Lane Kiffin may not be the answer to our problems.

Elko was the A&M DC in 2021, then went to Duke for two seasons, going 16-9, and only sniffed the A&M job because the boosters revolted over the job being offered to Mike Stoops.

I’m failing to see your point here.

He was a very successful coordinator at a P5 program and ready to take the next step. He took that next step as a head coach in 2021.

An AD with some vision would be able to pick up on candidates like that.

And it has seemingly worked out just fine for them.

Boosters often don't know any more about a potential HC that the average fans. Most of the time even less. They just want to throw money at "the best money can buy" based largely on name recognition alone. That's EXACTLY how LSU got Kelly in 2021. If the booster had their way, neither Saban nor Miles would have been LSU's HC. It took strong leaders (Emmert - Saban and Bertman - Miles) to make their decision independent of boosters.

Here, LSU has no President, a meddlesome publicity-hound Governor, and an AD who no one truly trusts and will NOT stand up to the boosters if he feels strongly about a non-booster approved candidate. Best case scenario, LSU finds their Freeman or Elko and we are off to the races. But this very easily could devolve into the decade + of bad coaching hires at Tennessee because there were constantly 15 cooks in the kitchen and no executive chef making a decision.

Yeah I mean but Freeman only became a HC because we hired Kelly. A bit of flawed logic with just that piece.

Would he have interviewed for the LSU HC job had we asked him to? I would bet so.

Would Woodward or this board EVER think about interviewing the ND DC. No.

That’s the point.

Whether it was ND or some other program a year or two later Marcus Freeman was getting a P5 head coaching job.

This board is obsessed with big names . Any young and comer suggested is met with “ that would be underwhelming “ . Bring me a young hungry guy with fire in his belly that will bring a culture of physicality

No reason LSU can't hire a coach who has proven he can field winning teams as a head coach.

Hiring a G5 head coach is a crap shoot. A coordinator hire working out would be blind luck.

The three names mentioned in this thread all ended up in their situation under unique circumstances. LSU may be forced to make a similar move when it is all said and done. After all, LSU did hire a defensive line coach to be HC. Speaking of, is Tom Herman done with coaching?

Elko has also played 5 SEC teams
with a combined 5-17 conference record.

Huh? Freeman had already rejected the DC job at LSU because his wife reportedly didn't want to live that far from family. And BK was on video saying he believed Freeman could have his job one day.

There's nothing to suggest Freeman would have had any interest in LSU.

It’s no longer my money so I don’t give a damn who they hire.
