Destination jobs: have legitimate expectations of winning their division, SECCG, and then competing for a NC.

Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Tennessee
Texas A&M

Stepping stones defined as they have a ceiling of 7-8 wins as a very good year and the possibility for a 9-10 Win season once every 10 years or so. Now unrealistic expectations are unrealistic as the fans demand more as these schools are paying coaches right in line with what the true contenders are paying, but history, recruting base, etc. limit otherwise.

Miss State:
Ole Miss
Missouri
Vanderbilt
Arkansas
South Carolina
Kentucky

I'd put A&M way ahead of Tennessee just based on recruiting alone

its hard for me to buy that LSU is the first tier these days when they hired a guy with a career losing record

and paid him handsomely

They could and should have done much better IMO. With a competent AD LSU is a top tier job

Alabama is an interesting case. They certainly have proven to have all the resources necessary not just to win championships, but dominate college football. But whoever comes after Saban will be walking into a HUGE shadow of expectations. Bama is not the only school able and willing to pay big dollars for a HC. A great coach can make big money AND not have to live up to the incredible standard established by Saban. So in a strange way Saban's success may make it less of a destination job than it was before

OTOH, LSU is about to win 10 games and finish top 15 with a shrimp boat captain at the helm.

Tier 1
Bama
Florida
LSU
Georgia

Tier 2
A&M
Auburn
Tennessee

Tier 3
South Carolina
Arkansas
Ole Miss
State

Tier 4
Vandy
Kentucky

I think the top 7 are schools that would compete for championships year in and year out with the right coach. The other 7 are programs that will compete every 3 or 4 years with the right coach who may or may not also be a program whose coach would be a candidate to leave for a different job every winter

1-7's ceilings are national titles and consistent 10 win seasons

8-12's ceilings are major bowl games and an occasional appearance in Atlanta and 10 win season

13-14 top out at reaching a bowl

Exactly. With Scott Woodward as LSU's AD, Jimbo Fisher goes to LSU in 2015 making 6.5-7 per and Woodward isn't looking back. Loser mentality in our AD right now.

You could make an objective, fact-based case that TAMU is a destination job.

You could also make an objective. fact-based case that AU is not one.

I'd like to see you make both cases concurrently. I don't think it's possible to do so.
