I think Arkansas and USCe are in a class by there self ahead of the rest of the little 7 teams . They are the 2 teams out side of the big boys that seem like they could get lucky and win a conference championship with the right coach .

its hard for me to buy that LSU is the first tier these days when they hired a guy with a career losing record

frick off! Dude rallied a team that was lost and had no hope at 3-2 and lead us to winning 6 out of our last 7. Get off his nuts and give the man some damn credit and quit living in the fricking past.

Having the 28th highest salary in CFB is hardly "being paid handsomely"

You could make an objective, fact-based case that TAMU is a destination job.

You could also make an objective. fact-based case that AU is not one.

I'd like to see you make both cases concurrently. I don't think it's possible to do so.

Both programs are not far from good prep talent geographically and their admistrations have shown they’re committed to putting significant resources toward the program so it can win - head coach’s salary, assistants salaries, support staff, facilities.

That really wasn’t hard

Mississippi State is not as good of a job as Arkansas. Arkansas has been to 3 times as many SEC championship games . Petrino had 2 seasons with a winning record out of 4 in conference play compared to Mullen’s 1 out of 8 . South Carolina had 3 straight 11 win seasons with Spurrier.

Your fan base praised Mullen like he was as a god and he only had 1 winning season in conference play .

TAMU has to be the most historically underachieving program in the history of college football. I wouldn't call them a destination job. It's a graveyard job and most likely the biggest graveyard job in the SEC.

Win 9 games at Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Miss State and they'll treat you like a god and pay you well. That has to be considered a destination job.

Win 9 games at Alabama and Auburn for 3 years in a row and they want you gone. Not much of a destination in some ways.

Only destination jobs in SEC are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and LSU. That doesn’t mean the only good jobs are them but I’d a top 5 national program came calling for a head coach these are the only 4 I think stay 99% of the time. For instance USCw or OSU come after A&M coach I think they leave most of the time

I was referring to the post where WCAg listed TAMU as a destination job, but not AU. My point was that you can't say one is and the other isn't, a sentiment with which you apparently agree.

I see now that I may have misread his post, and that he thought TAMU was #5 and AU (who he didn't list) would be #6, which is understandable.

Completely wrong, but understandable.

Using objective facts to show what a destination job is, which is totally subjective and depends person to person, is a pretty dumb exercise. What are we going to do, compare 247 recruiting rankings and facilities rankings?

If you meet expectations at either school it’s highly unlikely another program is hiring you away. That to me is a destination program

Arkansas has never been a "stepping stone" job and never will. No head coach has ever left willingly for another position at another program. Ever.

If I were to list my list of "destination" jobs in the league, I would base them on my memory of any coaches who have left those programs for other gigs. Which essentially what defines a "stepping stone" job.

Destination Jobs
Alabama
Arkansas
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Missouri
South Carolina
Texas A&M

Stepping Stone
Tennessee- Lane Kiffin the latest
Ole Miss- Tommy Tubberville
Miss State- Dan Mullen
Vanderbilt- James Franklin
Kentucky- Basketball will always be #1

The Texas A&M hype has always been a head scratcher to me. I get that TAMU has money to bowl on coaches & facilites. But that doesn't immediately mean championships.

A&M has every single piece of infrastructure needed to be a big time winning program. its no different than what florida was before the 90s came along

It never has with aTm.

I enjoy some our local aTm posters on this board, and this is no shot at them.

Every year since 1939 has been just another year or another coach that has essentially failed there. Texas and Texas A&M, just by location alone should be in the hunt for a national title every other year. They are surrounded by a multitude of talent to recruit from.

Texas and Texas A&M, for me, are two of the most underachieving programs in college football history.

Still, that doesn't mean they are not destination jobs. aTm is certainly a destination job.

That's true in a way. I just think TAMU has a lot more to deal with nowadays then what UF had to deal with in the 90's. We will see if the "sleeping giant" talk is actually real or not.
