I get that both universities are in a talent rich area. But I also believe the landscape of CFB is a bit different now. It's not just UT & TAMU as the only options in the state. Then you have schools like OU,Okla St,BAMA,UGA,UF & LSU going into the state and grabbing players.

I think that TAMU is opearting in the range that it kind of should be at the moment. They weren't killing it in the Big 12 back in the day and now they have other powerhouse programs to deal with in their own division.

I guess everyone has a different definition, to me it’s “if a coach continues to meet the expectations of the fan base, will that school be able to keep him long term”. I have no doubt we would be able to do that and I think Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee all qualify as such in the SEC

You can rank those jobs how you want but I don’t see a coach leaving one of those schools for another college job if the school really wants to keep him, unless there is some sort of strong personal connection

and i would say that with the amount of money that a&m is throwing into its program, the size of the fanbase, the quality of facilities that it has, and the local talent available would suggest that a&m is underachieving

Exactly. With Scott Woodward as LSU's AD, Jimbo Fisher goes to LSU in 2015 making 6.5-7 per and Woodward isn't looking back. Loser mentality in our AD right now.

And still losing 2-3 games a year and getting whipped by Bama while Jimbo sits around fat and happy being loyal to shitty assistants

LSU but our current President may not ever sign off on a $5 million plus coach anymore.

Isn't he only making 3.5 million? That's no longer being paid handsomely in the P5 conferences.

Mississippi State is not as good of a job as Arkansas. Arkansas

MSU has a built in recruiting advantage as well as facilities that compete with Arky's. I'd give MSU a slight edge there. Also MSU has won 6 out of the last 10, further proving my case.

State had never won in Arkansas until 2013 and won 4 of 5 against Bielema.

That doesn’t make it a better program in any way only recent success against overmatched HC.

Just like we had overmatched HC during Croom years. Same deal.

These schools can win a natty with the right coach: Bama, Auburn, Lsu, A&M, UF and UT

These schools can be 8-10 wins and occasional contender every 3-4 yrs with the right coach: AR, Missouri, SC, Miss St and maybe Ole Miss (if they escape the worst ncaa scenario)

UT

You misspelled UGA

If UF/UGA are good, Tennessee is closer to The tier below than inclusion in the top tier

They actually got him pretty cheaply.

If LSU had a competent AD who didn't just pitch a fit and throw in the towel after Hermann spurned him, they'd likely have a "name" coach in place.

Tennessee is definitely below Texas A&M now imo, plus Tennessee has been worse than TAMU for over a decade.

well I've seen coaches leave Tennessee for better jobs so I think that makes them a stepping stone

Swap florida and lsu and you're right. The top 2 are alabama and LSU. Florida is 3, georgia is 4th and auburn is behind them at 5.

i think A&M is highly underrated on this board

I don't know, I think they're generally pretty dead on at about 5 or 6. They don't have quite the history of some of the older SEC powerhouses.

That could change with a couple good hires.

UT is way too much of a zoo to get the right coach to win a natty right now, and UF isn't far behind.

Ehh, LSU had the highest paid staff in the country for maybe 3 seasons in a row very recently and still lost at least 3 games a year.

Kinda hard to fairly judge as long as Saban is still winning 7-8 SEC games a year.

But whoever comes after Saban will be walking into a HUGE shadow of expectations

Other than the money he'll get, I won't envy that guy the pressure he'll be under.
