HIs name has come up for Michigan twice, and he has been mentioned as a desirable candidate for the NFL.

It's funny that any Bama fan would ever refer to a $abun contract as any sort of a binding agreement. The man has never honored any contract that I am aware of.

Yeah, those people are a lot more idiotic than even the worst LSU or Bama fans on this board. I never understood the appeal of that job anyway. Penn State's a good program but they aren't on the level of an Alabama or USC or Texas or Ohio State historically. I'm not even sure if they're any better than LSU historically. Miles and Saban aren't leaving their jobs to take on that trainwreck any time soon.

Texas is about the scariest school Saban could end up at. He would have the number 1 recruiting class by far every single year and it would be legit. If they offered him that kind of money, I think he would take it. Texas just has too much to offer to pass up.

Heard some rumblings that Texas will be a little desperate to replace Mack at some point...with no clear option on a replacement, they may have to open the pocket book to land a big fish.

This make absolutley no sense. Why would they be desperate? The program is in good shape. Yes, I know they've had bad years in a row but where in the BCS CG before that and have continued to recruit well.

They will have no problem finding a replacement for Mack, no need to over pay for a guy like Saban.

Wow that thread is pure greatness its like the Rant on Steroids

I cant even pick out the best part

Miles wants to go back north...
Miles wants to stick it to michigan for passing on him as coach...
Miles/Saban are too big to be in the same conference so one will leave..
Miles is 100 percent coming and bring Gunner Kiel with him...
A random Airplane from Miami to Nola is obviously Penn States AD flying to meet Miles...
Miles want to focus on the title game so he tol them to send out bs coaching candiates...
Penn. has a better talent base for football...

THERES JUST SO MUCH GREATNESS!!!

Yes, because Texas would also pay off his bad investments.

If they are willing to pay Nick Saban $70 million, then they are indeed desperate.

Like I said, I don't think he will coach for another team...because of age and what he had already accomplished...plus, I think he prefers the south to the southwest.

My thread was more about UT being desperate enough to go after him with a huge contract offer.

Who else would be on UT's radar besides Saban and maybe Peterson?

Who said it was even binding? There's not even a buyout clause. I referenced the contract because certain article in the contract require his agent, or himself, to notify Alabama of any contact between Saban, or his agent, by other programs. Unless they would want a nasty lawsuit, or the like, I suspect those stipulations would be abided by. And if there were contact, I believe those certain stipulations would have set off alarms.

Well, they haven't made said offer, that's the point, they are not desperate and it makes no sense to suggest they are.

Most of the talk around Austin was that it'd be Peterson or bust. Some even talk about there being a secret agreement that he knows it's his job as soon as Mack steps down and that's why he hasn't been in a hurry to leave Boise.

That what makes no sense, because they are not desperate, there have been more crdible stories of them extending Brown. There are plenty of guys they could get, it is one of the top jobs in CFB, so no reason to think they will have tru=ouble finding a replacement.

no way...you are out of the loop. Mack Brown won't be coaching the team in 2014...he has, at most, two years before he takes over for Deloss Dodds.

Texas has been mired in two years of mediocrity...the Longhorn Network can't afford many more years of the same results of the last two years. We are talking about one of the top programs in the country here. If Texas has another sub-par year and Mack is ousted by impatient alums, who is going to be hired to turn it around?

The AP, Austin radio, Houston radio and the Austin American-Stateman(newspaper) have all reported that Brown will be getting an extension this off-season. Not saying it won't have a clause in it that allows him to "step down" into the AD office, but they're doing everything they can to show solidarity and stability.

quote:

Dodds told the American-Stateman he hopes Brown's multiyear extension will quash the rumors that have Brown retiring or being forced out at the end of the season.

"I'm just tired of all the conversations," Dodds said. "Continuity is of the essence. It's more about stability than anything else."

You also forgot the one about Saban growing up in West Virginia and regularly attended Penn State games as a kid so he's just waiting on a phone call from Penn State.

I don't think Saban's age would prevent Texas from making the offer? If he retires, he retires. It wouldn't cost them any money.

But, his age could very easily prevent Saban from moving on to another job.
