Is Luke Fickell officially off the table?

I know there have been “top list” leaked and Fickell doesn’t seem to be on any of them and the talks have died down significantly on this board about him.
Was he too much of long shot?

Perhaps the fact that everyone is saying he’s no longer a candidate means he is the candidate. Who the hell knows?

This keeps being repeated but not sure where it originated

Fickell would never leave the Midwest for Baton Rouge.

From his actual life.
Born in Columbus, Ohio.
Went to school and played at Ohio St..
His wife is from Ohio and went to Ohio St..
He was an assistant coach at Ohio St. For 16 years.
He left in 2017 to take the job at Cincinnati which is....you guessed it, it's also in Ohio.
The only non-OSU job he had before Cincinnati was at Akron which is ALSO in Ohio.
The guy has never in his 20 years of coaching, ever left the state of Ohio.

No one knows anything. Even the reputable posters here don’t really know anything and that’s not a knock against anyone. It’s just a fact at this point it’s everyone’s feelings or opinions.

I mean Cincy can pay and he's moving to the new B12 next year. Once OU and Texas leave and if the playoffs expand to 12, thats not a bad gig.
he could hang out there for another 3-5 years and see if another midwest/Ohio St gig opens up

So your saying there’s a chance….

Agreed. It’s madness on this board right now. Great to see some positivity happening around football right now though at the very least.
I’d want Fickell if he was on the table. Been watching interviews and whatnot on all coaches mentioned and he just stands out. We will be in good hands with whoever SW hires though!

It certainly seems like he would want to stay up there, considering that is where him and his family are from. Now maybe you could lure him to BR with another 3-4 million a year or he could see himself getting a raise if he continues this at Cinci.
It is not like BR has any geographical allure to it like a school in Florida, west coast, mountains, or east coast. So it would take a lot of money and a strong desire to win a Title no matter where it is to make a guy that appears to anchored in the area to move.
He will likely get a big extension and raise soon if he keeps Cinci hot, will be in a conference that he can recruit better and possibly be at the top or near the top of the hill in that conference.
I'm not taking a dig at BR...I grew up there and lived in Zachary. I would love to have some big acreage north of there....but after being in Fort Worth for 20 yrs, I can't see myself moving back.....unless I had that big acreage. Which that ain't happening.

Well he’s dumb…because it’s not the Midwest it is the Mideast.

He’s also never been offered 10-12 million to do so.

Might have been in BR this past Sunday meeting with LSU officials after beating Tulane in NOLA on Saturday. Flew back on a private jet Sunday night landing at a remote airport north of Louisville.

Knowing how Woodward operates, what does that tell you? A guy on here claims there is an outstanding offer to Lincoln Riley (the White Whale) and we haven’t heard back. What if the offer part is right but the coach is wrong. Then ask yourself, who’s the one that at this point no one really sees coming?

He thinks the end of the earth is the Ohio State line. He’s not stepping across that line. Lol
