I find this HARD to believe. IF he didn’t fly back with his team, I would imagine we would have (at a minimum) heard a lot more “noise” than this by now! I’m not accusing you of lying, but where are all the other rumors and speculation regarding this?

I never lived outside of Louisiana until I moved away from Louisiana.

If Fickell wants a bigger, higher paying job, he's probably going to have to move out of the state of Ohio. I don't see the OSU job opening up anytime soon, do you?

maybe not osu (although thats almost certaily his #1), but notre dame, michigan, michigan state are all jobs in that general region that have a chance of coming open in the near future. not to mention the fact that cincy is joining a p5 conference and his son is a freshman on the team

Hypothetical because I do not know know these guys history and what not

Riley and Fickell have offers and both want to coach at LSU. Which one would you pick to rebuild LSU?

Just from interviews and other people talking, it would be hard for me to not pick Fickell. I understand Riley’s top of the game offensively but I think Fickells entire body of work at Cincy is more of what LSU needs right now. Thoughts?

It is not like BR has any geographical allure to it like a school in Florida, west coast, mountains, or east coast.

Not geographical, but maybe gastronomical.

Louisiana/Baton Rouge
Gumbo
Boudin
Seafood
Poboys
Etoufee
Jambalaya
Crawfish
Lots of other local delicacies

Ohio/Cincinnati
chili made with cinnamon and nutmeg served over spaghetti

Louisianians love to hang their hat on food. No real professional is going to make a huge career move based on po boys.

You sound like someone from a state with shitty food. Besides, what the hell else are we gonna hang our hats on. We got good food and friendly people. If you don't like it, cool with us.

If Luke Fickell accepts a job after the season, then it will be the Penn State job. As Penn State sits right next door to Ohio.

Otherwise, he is going to bide his time until the day Ryan Day screws the pooch at Ohio State.

Fickle would be a good hire, but the great hire would be a HC from the NFL. Morally sound, knows x & 0’s, good at recruiting and can handle personnel hires ( coaching staff ).
One name that comes to mind is Kliff Kingsley ( once TT College Coach ). I’m sure there are others in the league with interest. Geaux fighting tigers.

Small private jet left BR at 8:00 Sunday night after Fickell met with LSU reps all day. What was said or discussed is unknown to me. Jet landed at Clark Regional Airport just north of Louisville at 9:20. Fickell had an hour and twenty minute drive back to Cincy.

Everybody and his brother says Fickle isn't leaving Ohio for anything. I said he may take the Penn State job if it opens because Penn State is right next door to Ohio.

Meanwhile, hoping that Fickle is willing to move south is as delusional as thinking Lincoln Riley will leave OU for LSU, or Dabo will leave Clemson for LSU, or Saban will leave Alabama for LSU.

Lol. But you conveniently forget to mention he played for the Saints for one season back in ‘97!

I know there have been “top list” leaked and Fickell doesn’t seem to be on any of them and the talks have died down significantly on this board about him.

Was he too much of long shot?

Leaks are just attention whores who know nothing. Nothing is off the table at this point. When you see someone sign a contract with someone else and there are penalties for for breaking it then that someone is off the table.

So who would be the better hire?

Fickell or Riley? Assuming both want the job. Just for talking purposes obviously

It certainly seems like he would want to stay up there, considering that is where him and his family are from. Now maybe you could lure him to BR with another 3-4 million a year or he could see himself getting a raise if he continues this at Cinci.

I'm sure almost every coach would like to remain in the region of their choice. I think more often than not they go where the opportunity is. There's no assurance that any opportunity would ever open up when and where he wants it to.

I wouldn't want a HC that would choose home over opportunity. Speaks to someone that's fine staying in his comfort zone. Where the hell is Saban from? Midwest? What about Bear Bryant?

"He wants to stay home," this isn't a conversation we have about transcendent coaches.

Kingsbury!!
The guy was a complete failure at his Alma mater Tech in a conference with 3 decent teams. Don't understand this wish for Kingsbury.
