Economy vs. premium economy one way from Europe to the U.S.

The premium economy fares are more than three times the economy fares. Does the board feel the increased price is worth it?
Again, asking only about one way coming back to the U.S., and not overnight.

I flew premium economy on one leg to Australia and economy on the other.
A better seat in economy is better than a worse seat in premium in my opinion.
At 3x, not even close to worth it

Believe this poster is short. My wife and I are tall. Flew Premium economy to Europe then Tanzania. Definitely worth the upgrade to me.
Four legs round trip were about 8 hours each. I would pay it for one leg. But again legroom is important to me.
Food was great, booze flowed freely if that is your thing

Premium economy for international to Europe is typically comparable to domestic first class. I flew it back from London on British Airways and found the cost difference to be more than worth it. I would check the plane type and airline and search reviews before making your decision. The type of seat and service is going to determine your answer for you.

At 3X? Of course not. If you feel like you don't have enough room in a regular economy seat, then you could buy an empty seat next to yourself and still save money.

This.......but at 3x reg economy my cheap arse wouldn't pay that. When we flew to Europe this summer I bought economy and I would get an email every couple of weeks offering an upgrade. At first it was $1500 per seat (each way) and then by 2 weeks out it was $500 per seat so I jumped on that for the outbound flight. Coming back the time change is easier so I stayed in economy.

Have you been to Europe and back before? Going over is overnight and for most people they are either headed to a work function or on vacation, so they want to adjust as quickly as possible and be able to sleep.
On the way back, most are returning and don't care as much to adjust as quickly plus its in the middle of the day and you would normally be awake anyway. So you are just watching movies.
3x coming back to normal life with time to adjust, that seems incredibly high. Maybe 30% more would be worth it. Again you are just watching movies, if you want some drinks you can pay for them if you don't get them in economy and you usually do. I rarely drink as much coming back as I do going over.

I took Singapore premium economy to and from Manchester on an A350 for about 30% more than a mid-tier economy ticket. While better seats, they had fixed armrests, so I couldn't lay down like everyone in cattle class.
Perhaps you take the middle ground, and ensure you have full seat selection for economy with the right economy ticket class and use Seatmaps to pick the best economy seat you can (making sure you don't get the seat with the IFE box underneath it, or sitting behind someone that does, etc.)

Next Thursday flying economy from DC to Barcelona. Only 8 hour flight. I'm 6.1 and wife is 5' and I can handle that seat. I'll have some drinks in me and will be too excited to give a shite. But returning flight starts in Athens to DC is almost 12 hours. Originally booked economy and got lucky and upgraded to United Prem Plus only costing $700/seat. At one time it was $2k per. seat but apparently if you look in the united app at certain times (usually late at night) of the week the prices drop.
Those sleep pods are 6k extra each.

I think there are two classes of travelers. One that thinks you need to sleep on a long haul, and those that adjust on the flight and stay awake on destination time.
I know leaving from IAH to TYO, I have about 3 hours to sleep (which means close to 0 after meal service,) and then I need to stay awake to adjust to the time zone in TYO in one day.
Just get a comfortable enough seat, and a blow up $30 seat cushion, and move on with life. 16h55m in cattle doesn't bother me, because I'm not the idiot that avoids the $75 fee to secure a seat assignment.

Get on a 777 or 787 and get the exit row in the back section of the plane. You'll have like 6' of legroom. It's insane. I've gotten it 4 times and it's awesome having that much room.

At this stage of life, we always do Premium Economy. But that fare diffential doesn't make sense. I would not pay 3× the Economy fare for Premium Economy. That seems unusually high. A more typical Premium Economy premium appears to be around 1.5–2.25 times Economy, although one-way international fares can sometimes get distorted when availability is limited.

What are the rules on this? I honestly don't know? Its honestly an "upsell" that I'm shocked the airlines haven't explored when there are open seats. Why not offer to sell the open seat to someone as opposed to risking someone sits there? If you are flying with someone it makes more sense to buy a 3rd seat and share a 3 seat row than pay more than 2x for premium economy. I know premium economy will have longer leg room, but you'd have more space with 2/3 in a row in standard.

Europe to America to me is such an easy trip and the jet lag when returning to America is easy

I don't get it. Sit still for 8 hours, watch some movies, and go to sleep. It's not that intolerable. You'll forget all about the flight 2 days later
