Anyone take a trip to Maine?

Me and the wife are going for our 30th anniversary. We got two days in Portland, two days in Booth Bay and the last three in Bar Harbor.
Any recommendations?

Traveled there and hunted grouse and woodcock in Fall 2020.
Much was shut down in the cities. Portland was trying to emulate the other one in Oregon.
Bangor was interesting.
The eastern part of the state is incredibly remote.
Having been to all 50, Maine is one of my favorites (at least in the rural areas).

Enjoyed boothbay and bar harbor a lot. Def check out Acadia national park and do a sunset cruise outta bar harbor. I was trying to find the name of the place we had the best lobster from near bar harbor and I think its name has changed to rose Eden lobster. It’s not right in town but a little shack just on the outskirts of town. It was very good.

All of Mount Desert Island is cool, but Bar Harbor is very touristy. We stayed in Southwest Harbor, and it is much more chill. Plenty of good hiking on that side of the island too.

When in Boothbay Harbor try Deb's Bristol Diner for breakfast. Pemaquid Seafood in Boothbay Harbor for Lobster and Steamed clams.

The missus and I are going in mid-October.. starting in Hudson, NY for the weekend and going up to Maine for the remainder of the week..

Went mid September 2021. 3 nights in Damariscotta on a houseboat, 2 or 3 nights in Bar Harbor, 1 night in Bath. If you go to Debs, go late morning as the place will be packed with locals early. Acadia NP and Cadillac Mt will be very crowded with limited parking. You may need to get a pass by lottery to get into the park
The houseboat was a good jumping off point for Boothbay Harbor, Pemaquid Pt lighthouse, Debs. Walking distance from the bars and food in town. Brewery nearby

Agree. We stayed at the Harbour Cottage Inn in Southwest Harbor. Bar Harbor is just on the other other side of Acadia NP, an easy drive. We did some day trips into BH. That was plenty for us. Very busy and touristy.

going there at the end of this month. Staying one night in Tenants Harbor and then four nights in Bar Harbor. Already have the reservation for Cadillac Mountain sunset and a Bar Harbor sunset cruise. Just plan to do some hikes, kick back in town drinking beer, and lounging by our hotel pool. And of course eating lot of different dishes.

whatever you do, eat at Duckfat in portland, the best fries I think I've ever had, obviously fried in duckfat lol.

If it’s fall, the foliage is amazing. I could spend about a day in Portland, but that’s about it.
It’s nice, but it was the equivalent of a whiter cleaner Austin to me after a day.
Depending on how far you want to go out, Cape Elizabeth is some of the most amazing scenery in America. Just beautiful ideal New England. We spent an hour just taking in the Light House area and it was breathtaking.
If you’re doing Bar Harbour, I’d assume you’re doing Acadia, which is well worth it.
I think Portsmouth NH isn’t worth staying in, but is worth a day trip if you get done with things in Portland.

Just got back on Monday. Hauled our travel trailer up the Appalacians and over to ANP and Bar Harbor. Make sure you see the whole park and drive all of Mt Desert Island. It was still cool but took the dog to Sand Beach twice, drove the Coast road in the park twice went over to Schoodic Peninsula part of ANP. Ate at BarHarbor pound three times and if you do go to the ice cream boat and get Blueberry Pie Ala mode it's to die for. Found Chase Restaurant and the scallops were so good, and I have never given scallops the time of day in LA.nice restaurant was ? Ketch at SW Harbor...Oh yeah Cadillac Mt get your passes on Reserve America...Spent a full week there and would do it again but bring your credit cards as food is expensive.

Just got back here are my tips:
Bar Harbor: Bar Harbor Inn is a great place to stay, a little tucked away from crowds there. We ate at the restaurant called Dinner and it was great, including the Irish bartender/waiter. Also went to Galyn's, which was kinda touristy but the lobster fettucinei is terrific. Side Street Cafe was a fun atmosphere but food is kinda overrated.
We hiked Acadia a bit, the Great Head Trail is the best one we did. Sand Beach can be crazy busy after abt 10 am. Def do the 27 mile drive with stops, even grab sandwiches from Downeast Deli and picnic along the way.
We also spent a day on E-bikes on the carriage roads, tons of fun. If you do this, choose a place that meets you in parking lot with the bikes.
This may be unpopular opinion, but Jordan Pond House is borderline tourist trap, except for the blueberry lemonade. Popovers ....suck.
Cafe this Way for breakfast is best breakfast one we had.
Camden- 40 Paper is excellent Italian food. The rooftop bar at 16 Bayview is a lot of fun, good views. We hiked in Camden State Park, not quite as good as Acadia but hey-it's Maine so enjoy it.
Boothbay Harbor- Topside Inn, has a nice view. Went sailing from here and it was better than any day cruise I have ever been on. Our boat only had 7 people so we missed the crowds.
Kennebunkport- Cape Arundel Inn has views of Walker Point. We had a quick dinner at Mabel's and it was fine. Kennebunkport itself during the midday was too chaotic for me. But I was probably getting tired at this point.
If you fly out of or into Boston, there is a scenic byway thru some of the coastal Mass towns, including Glouster (for fans of Perfect Storm).
Enjoy your trip !
