Looking at the Orbi system and also the Linksys Velop system

Anyone have any suggestions.

The house I am buying has a separate building in the backyard that I want to be able to stream tv in.

I have the Ubiquiti Mesh system. It's fantastic. And about at the same price point as the two you mentioned. I previously had the Google WiFi mesh system and it didn't work out to well for me. One of the receivers kept dropping signal. Replaced it and same thing happened to the replacement. No issues whatsoever with the Ubiquiti system. Very easy to control with the app that you can download for your phone.

Ubiquitous just makes good quality product. Even the consumer targeted items are virtually enterprise quality.

My FIL has Velop that I helped him install. Very awkward house layout and lots of stone. Wi-Fi was craptastic prior to Velop. With the Velop 3 pack, coverage is everywhere, no drops, and seamless handoff. I recommend it. But you do pay a premium for it.

I have the linksys velop. I haven’t had any issues with it.

I especially liked that you could backhaul the APs with a wired connection. All the APs are hardwired to a switch my network closet.

I had a couple of these

Ubiquiti Unifi Ap-AC Long Range - Wireless Access Point - 802.11 B/A/G/n/AC (UAP-AC-LR-US)

and yes they were hard wired. Google smashes them.

That's what I thought, you don't have the mesh system. The newer Amplifi HD actual mesh system has better range and is faster if you want a mesh system. Cons are it's not as expandable and if you want to wire backhaul, you have to buy multiple router only and wire them together instead of the system as there is no connections on the satelites. Router has 4 LAN/1 WAN on it, which is nice. Cost for two router only are about the same as Google Wifi, system is more expensive than both of those.

Are you wire backhauling the Google Wifi?

From my research, I’m still unsure what I want to go with, lol.

Here’s what I know, the Orbi is a great product, but Netgear is a shite company that basically won’t support it or even know what you are talking about if you call/chat/email them. Seems to be the speediest with good range, worst app of the three I am looking at. Speed is key for me since I want to make use of my gig internet.

Google is google. It simplified the shite out of the settings which seems to be a positive to most people because the app is great. Seems to be a good to great mesh if you don’t mind google knowing everything you do on the net to sell to other people and pray they just don’t randomly decide to stop supporting it like they have done some products because then it will just be a brick. Great support from their team.

Ubiquiti seems to be well liked, some people hate the design of the satellites and no wired backhaul on them. Very strong signal and range from them. Decent support. Decent app and settings. Strongly considering just getting two router only models and wire backhauling them for my needs.

Didn’t really look at the Velop or Eero as hard as I should. They seem to be ok, but not as preferred as the three above.

this confuses me. i don't know all the terminology but i assume any AP I add will be connected via PoE.

is there 2 kinds of ethernetted APs here?

can i just add a ubiquiti AP or 2 and keep my existing ASUS router intact and get the same benefits or do i need to buy the whole system? i just want to improve signal/range and still enjoy my RMERLIN firmware.

is there an advantage to getting the '3 pack' or however they sell these systems from the get-go and re-doing all my setup? not looking forward to dialing in a new system that may or may not have the features i've been enjoying for years.
