Wanted to mention some things.
First off we got us a great coach. Too bad he wasn’t hired earlier in the WC window but he’s maximizing our talent.
Secondly, comparing how England went full bunker when down a man vs US not bunkering down a man. Poch decided to keep trying to score even down. This was smart because England has a way better goalie and we don’t. Old coach woulda bunkered and we woulda lost. I think because he kept offense it kept ball out of our end with a weaker goalie.
I think it was smart coaching knowing your strength and weaknesses. Mexico was one dimensional in attack and easier to defend down a man and England still had some pucker up moments. No way US survives its game trying same. Really glad we have Poch.
I also read during lead-up to WC, Poch was using an online site to send his players clips of his strategies. This is smart use of tech since players can’t be at all US lead-up games. And they learn his style of play. I think thats why they look so much more crisp than most expected and playing on same page. Quite hard to do when you get little time with your starters all together.
Win or lose he’s gotten us as far as anyone has. Win tonight and he’ll seal his place in US soccer history. But he has them playing together and thats all you can ask. We don’t have the same overall talent but have the spirit.
And can you imagine if we had young Tim Howard at goal with this team!! Man, he was the best!
Normally we play in home stadiums half packed with opposing fans but this WC is the biggest fan turnout in US soccer history. I think the players feed off that too. And know how huge a moment it is.

Everyone got excited over that simulator showing the US could play bumfrick 1 and bumfrick 2 in the R16 and Quarters. IRL it’s Belgium and Spain.
