We had every advantage possible, playing at home in the best environments. And here we are again, with a round of 16 loss. We don't have it and I don't think we will have enough talent to get any further any time soon either. Sad.

Agreed it was a letdown. But the World Cup overall has been fun as hell.hopefully it keeps that momentum

Agreed. We always lose in the R16. This was par, so it wasn’t successful.

This team is fricking soft. 2014 USA fought a much better Belgium team like true Americans.

We’re not very good at soccer

We did what we always do, we needed to do more.

Hopefully we can start kicking arse in Concacaf the next four years and build some momentum back

I've enjoyed the rest of the games too. I'm team Norway now.

Shouldn’t be shocked a team ranked #16 finishes in the top 16.

In the end we lost in the same round we usually lose in, except by more goals than usual. And at home. Very deflating.

I don’t think our guys looked too good in 2014 against Belgium, outside of Jermaine Jones and Michael Bradley. The big difference of course was we had a world class goalkeeper instead of a scrub.

Losing in this round in a tight, hard-fought game would have made this a successful Cup. Unfortunately we played very poorly today.

Eh, a little bit of a letdown but they did show promise.

Where? We lost at the same stage we always do, and when we finally played an actual soccer power we got embarrassed. It was the worst performance in a WC game since 1998.

Lol. The moment got too big for them and they laid an egg. Seen it happens a hundred times. Doesn’t mean they weren’t unbelievable the rest of the way. They won the group before the third game, had a strong goal differential even with a godawful goalie. The shite they were doing on the attack in their first four games was unlike any USMNT I have even seen.

I have feeling that this is not the case. I think many Americas will stop caring, now that the US is out (and so far from really competing). At this point, I am pulling for anyone other than Argentina or France.

That's kind of the point of not making progress. Progress would be that the moment wouldn't have been too big for them and they would've risen to the occasion.

Being happy with goal differential against Paraguay, Aussie, and Bosnia isn't a good barometer

Stop being dense.
We scored more goals this WC than any previously. By a large margin.
Poch had more WC victories than any other coach in us history.
And, a nation of people realized soccer can be cool and exciting.

Worst performance was in 06, where we lost to Czech 3-0.

We made the last 16. Hundreds of countries don't have it then. Including Mexico, the Netherlands, Italy, etc..

If anything, this gives me hope we can do it one day.

Just needed someone to clear the ball out of the box. We weren't switched on defensively and happens to all teams, even France.

That game sucked but in 06 we at least drew against the eventual winners and were the only team to score on them all tournament.

98 was a total disaster

Own goal.

While we may have been good defensively, we couldn't score. That's the tradeoff. That's basically Ghana this year. Great defensively, offered nothing going forward. Can't win games if you can't score.
