We made the last 16. Hundreds of countries don't have it then. Including Mexico, the Netherlands, Italy, etc..
Mexico made the round of 16.

If anything, this gives me hope we can do it one day.
Do what? Make the quarters, we've done that before.
This was our best chance to at least make it that far again and we bungled it.

As a casual, my observations:
1. The loss to Turkey was evidence that the team has no real depth after the starters.
2.The beat down against Belgium proved that the starters don't stack up against the top 10.
3. The offensive strategy against Belgium was mind numbing. They obviously couldn't penetrate the defense to take easy shots on goal, but instead of playing longer attacking passes/shots for potential corners and maybe rebound shots, they kept trying to control the ball and pass the ball through defenders to work the ball closer which 90+% of the time resulted in easy turnovers for Belgium's very good defense. The head coach looked lost.

Eh, a little bit of a letdown but they did show promise.

frick that, we are beyond the "showing promise" moral victory results. I'll give them that for the 2022 WC, especially based on coaching deficiencies, but this WC they are in their prime, playing at home, with a coach who has shown he can get tactics right (even though Broski on his soapbox is right that they were off last night). Not getting to the quarterfinals is a failure top to bottom.
