Watch Balogun in this play where he hit the cross bar on the Dest pass. The fact this wasn’t a penalty is outrageous.

re: What is your bar for describing this World Cup as "successful" for USMNT?

quote:I disagree. There is fluff in the field with 48 teams. Bosnia was a third place finisher that had to go through playoffs to qualify at all. They are at best a group stage level opponent. Beating them is par for where we’ve been.
Achieving the knockout round is par.
A final 16 team like Belgium is the level we haven’t regularly exceeded. Below par is exceeding it for the first time in nearly a quarter century.

Round of 16 is par, we do it in most WCs.
QFs is success. We rarely do it.
SFs is dreamland. It means we beat a power like Spain, Portugal or Croatia. Very unlikely to get that far.
Finals are unrealistic. We will lose to France or Morocco if we get to the semis.

re: Drew Brees Superdome Debate

It’s a poor argument against him as he was elite everywhere he played. That said, he was markedly better record wise and stats wise at home.
No clue how the disparity compares to other QBs (I assume most are better at home), but the stats do show Brees was better in the dome.

You’re wondering why FIFA chose cities like Seattle and San Francisco to host a major international tournament instead of Tuscaloosa, Auburn, and Baton Rouge?
quote:Yes. They may have different political views, but the vast majority of people in both places love their country like you do.
Do you think Seattle and San Francisco are generally pro-American cities (patriotic, American flag-waving, red, white, blue)?

. Not a woman.
There is no mechanism to overturn a red. He will be out vs Belgium.

The drop off from Balogun to Pepi or Wright is significant though. There is no on par replacement.

It’s awesome. Dempsey is just so much cooler than Donovan and both of them know it.
USA goal 1: US citizen because of the Birthright Citizenship
USA goal 2: US citizen because of our overseas military presence.
God bless the USA and our laws and greatness!

This is fricking ridiculous.
That is not a red card.

You knew that was coming.
Even if we hold on, he’s out vs Belgium now.
Just fricking ridiculous.

Now that foul on Dest was BS.
Let’s not a penalty unfortunately

He probably means the games were not against Andorra and San Marino. They were against more legit sides like Netherlands and Portugal and Belgium.
Alright my fellow Americans, let’s do this.
If we lose this game, I’m convinced we will never win a World Cup knockout game or beat a European team ever again.
