Is it worth watching or is it just backups going through the motions?

It’s the second to last World Cup game until 2030 so it’s worth watching. These two teams will be very disappointed to be participating in it though.

That’s what I was thinking. How can England not want to beat France and vice versa.

What's the 'purse/payout' difference ??

I can’t muster up any energy in me whatsoever to even care. As an American, and this isn’t intended to sound douchey, I just can’t fathom competing for the equivalent of a bronze as an enticing spectacle to watch. It just doesn’t “happen” in the States. Could be a phenomenal game, but to me, it’s already a dud.

I’d love to watch you tell American Olympians their bronze medals don’t matter.

No they usually play the guys that didn’t get much run in the tournament. It’s honestly ridiculous that they still have it.

Not really the spirit of the game though. Hell 17 premier league teams have no shot at winning the title every year. One of the things I love about soccer is that to a lot of fans the present game is enough.

I had thought Mbappe would sit it out
But hes tied with Messi for Golden Boot and plays the day before- does he play and try to score against what would presumably be England reserves?

It's a time you can play someone who hasn't had many or any minutes. Individual players will have their level of pride they play with.

It's also not like France and England 2nd 11 are shite players.

At the 2026 World Cup, the team that finishes in third place receives $29 million
But looks like 4th place only gets a few million less

It’s usually full of goals but a bit less exciting because there isn’t much on the line. It’s more of an exhibition but it features some of the world’s best players.

It’s kinda like the par 3 contest before the masters. It’s exciting and fun. Worth the watch to me. It’s one of my favorite games.

It’s not strictly necessary from a tournament perspective, but the tournament would lose part of what makes it what it is. I don’t know what some of yall are talking about with getting rid of it. I hope they always have it. Celebrate the game, celebrate the culture, relax and enjoy the show.

The backups dwarf most of the rest of the world, and since this will be the only minutes many of them get this cup and they have pride, they will very much not be going through the motions

It’s usually a high scoring open game since there’s nothing to lose

But it’s not an outcome many remember. The last 5 finals are easy to recall, but Germany, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Croatia not so much

I've watched a bunch of these 3d place matches. (Basically every one since 1994)
Every time, everyone acts like they don't care.
When the whistle blows to start the game, everyone is friendly. At some point during the first 10 minutes a switch flips inside their brains and they want to absolutely beat the shite out of the other team.
3d place matches are usually very entertaining. Two teams pretending to not give AF, really giving AF.
Especially France vs England. It means much more to both sides than anyone in their fan base will let on. It will be epic.

ETA: It's likely to be more entertaining than the final, to be honest.

I remember when it was South Korea vs Turkey a Turkish guy scored within like 15 seconds… the fastest goal ever in the World Cup

International soccer doesn’t really do the concept of all-star games so this is the closest we’ll get
