They will get passed along. It’s why they started this whole charade by eliminating step I scores. Without a standardized test that the schools have no control over, they couldn’t force bad students through the system as easily. They’ll start eliminating grades. Pretty soon competitive medical and surgical residencies are going to have very little objective data to go on when deciding who to rank.

Others have addressed this but doctors were frequently looked down on if their M.D was from a low prestige school because the standards were lower while those who went to the high prestige schools were more in demand. If given the choice no one would choose a doctor from Liberty University over someone from John Hopkins.

The whole MCAT and ACT/PSAT system doesn't work well anyway.

I took the ACT after being out all night partying and dropping 2 hits of strawberry mescaline. Scored 32. Took the MCAT literally 20 years later to enter clinicals for a 2nd degree and without even knowing anything about the content or format until 15 minutes before the test scored the 3rd highest in the nation that year.

None of this happened.

A young woman working with my NP wife for the summer finished Pre-Med degree and applied LSU Shreveport. She said there was 7800 applicants for 128 slots.
She said the numbers for UNO are worse.
She hasn’t heard if she’s being accepted, her fall back plan is to apply for PA school somewhere.

We have a grandson majoring in Medical Physics with his ultimate goal of becoming a Radiation Oncologist.I would think his chances for med school are slim ,him being a white male.

Thing I found interesting in my ICU career is ,despite med school being so competitive,I saw some seriously stupid Drs,esp.GP’s,FP,and Internal Medicine.
Also dealt with a lot of smart Drs,some were brilliant, but they were in the specialties for the most part.

That reminds me of a passage from a book called Cutting for stone.

To paraphrase. "A rich man hides his mistakes with money. A surgeon hides his with dirt".

What?

This makes no sense
20 years after completion of 1st BS degree went for a 2nd BS. Part of the Clinical Selection Process was Score on the MCAT and I was highest score of the clinical applicants, 3rd highest in the nation (according to professors (plural)) for that year.

For those who doubt, that's on you. I don't have any reason to lie on the interwebs. It's not like I'll ever meet any of you or that any of you will influence my life with other than brands/items as a US based consumer customer.

I have lived an incredible and generally wonderful life. Some of you need to get out more, travel, meet new people, try new things. You'll be amazed at things that just seem to randomly happen, especially if you are nice, respectful, and sociable. Also helps to be fearless and bold.

Specialists tend to make a frick ton more money than a GP or most other normal doctors, so people head into that field.

I believe that most of the people I went to school with who actually became doctors trended into the radiologist fields, though at least one became a psych because she loved it when she did her rotations.

It will eventually reflect poorly on that school if they start graduating underperformers.

A few malpractice lawsuits and no one will hire from them.

But hey. They can say they are a top DEI school.

I’m taking a guess that the hospitals will try and sweep the malpractice under the rug, as they haven’t been opposed to hiding shite if they know they fricked up bad.

Yeah, there are other important qualities for a doctor beyond academic ability. Like, is he good at basketball?

I’ve never heard of a degree that requires the mcat for entrance other than medical school

Would be interested to know what degree and what field.

So among students not looking to enter medical school taking the MCAT (a very very limited number of people) you scored the 3rd highest in the nation?

Cool.

Nope, among ALL takers of the MCAT (conceivably some re takers/takers who were not enrolled at the time).

Some of the anxillary fields, potentially by school/division/etc., may require the test as a pre-qualification to help further distinguish between students.

Since I retired as a Radiology Dept. Manager I think you can probably now figure out the field of study with that bit of added info.
