Woke doctors blast 'corrupted' medical schools for rejecting students on MCAT and GPA scores: ‘Insignificant'

Doctors said medical schools should begin assessing applicants "holistically" and pull back significant weight on their grade point average and MCAT scores in order to create more diversity in the medical profession, according to an article published in a medical journal.

"In several decades…[we] have practiced medicine, no patient has ever asked us our GPA or MCAT score. Looking solely at these metrics is a troubling and regressive way to assess the excellence – let alone the potential – of those seeking to join the profession," the authors said in Journal of the American Medical Association on April 25.

The authors included President Dr. Holly J. Humphrey of the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation – which is involved in providing grants for medical education – and Dr. Keme Carter is a professor and doctor at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.

"Where have such practices brought us? It is clear that the profession of medicine has not historically trained a diverse group of people. Medical schools have struggled to admit classes of students whose identities reflect those of the public," the article states.

The whole medical community is a joke. You can’t trust your doctors for anything anymore unfortunately.

Fact. I had to go back to the eye doctor three times to get the right prescription from my contact lenses. It would have been more effective for them to give me one of each contact lens in a range and me figure it out myself.

That's because people knew that the system had built in high standards, dumbass.

They might have to start asking now.

Irrelevant trying to become relevant again. Most of their members are med students and Residents. Real practicing doctors is like 20-30% last time I looked.

A new iteration of Lysenkoism is coming. Partly because we don’t read history.

Mostly because we’ve raised generations of godless, self-involved brats.

This should be a reminder for everyone to use only white male or Asian doctors

No one asks a doctor about their gpa, mcat scores because it was widely known that medical schools only accepted the best and the brightest, for the most part. With equity being the theme now, not meritocracy, we can’t take medical care proficiency as a given anymore. In fact, many professions will decline in competency when meritocracy is not the standard for employment and promotions.

LSU school of medicine has gone all in on DEI and "holistically" evaluating candidates.

I have a family member that was born in Louisiana, family is from Louisiana, and went to LSU for undergrad. 3.87 GPA, 516 MCAT score, great ECs, hilarious and charismatic personality. Received multiple acceptances, but rejected from LSU-NO and Shreveport. Had to go out of state for medical school.

He recently graduated medical school with a 263 on Step I. Rejected from LSU-NO and Shreveport. Half of the interns being brought in for the residencies he applied to are minorities, and I doubt any of them had anything close to a 263 on Step I.

There are only so many seats at any med program.

Rejecting good applicants because someone wants an under-qualified applicant to get a chance has a high likelihood of being a waste because the under qualified applicant can’t hack it and either gets passed along as a shitty doctor or fails out.

It won't be long before savvy people choose only White or Asian doctors. We all know the standards won't be lowered at all for them.

If the perception is that white and Asian doctors had to meet higher standards than other groups to get through med school, people will start making the assumption that those docs are far more likely to be good than others.

When you lower standards for one group, you lower expectations of what you get from that group no matter how high achieving some members of it will be.

ER addressed this almost 30 years ago by having a black resident go extra hard on a black intern because the ability to check the box for preferential treatment means that you have to work that much harder even if you didn’t do that, because people think you did.

I respect white and Asian male doctors because to get where they are they had to overcome a lot of diversity

The whole MCAT and ACT/PSAT system doesn't work well anyway.

I took the ACT after being out all night partying and dropping 2 hits of strawberry mescaline. Scored 32. Took the MCAT literally 20 years later to enter clinicals for a 2nd degree and without even knowing anything about the content or format until 15 minutes before the test scored the 3rd highest in the nation that year.

Imagine the white progressive liberal politicians screaming at you for being racist with your doctor choices while only seeing White and Asian doctors on the down low for their families and themselves

So has the NFL and NBA. Why is proportional representation a goal? If we are all equal, we should all be interchangeable.

If a mechanic fricks up a car, it can be fixed by another mechanic, or replaced.

If a doctor fricks up a procedure, it "may" be able to be fixed by another doctor, and "may" result in a permanent disability or death.

I don't think I want half-assed knowledgeable and capable physicians/surgeons handling issues in my life.

Well of course not because we expect the smartest and best become doctors. I dont know how the scoring is for an MCAT but if 1 is bad and 10 is best I certainly don't want a doctor that got a 2 but is a minority so i should feel good about that. frick that. This is my health we are talking about, or my children's health. Guess I will just find doctors that have been practicing for 30-40 years before all this bullshite started.

People will have to avoid black doctors to ensure safety, which is sad but how can you possibly ever know an affirmative action doctor is knowledgeable?
