If you were alive in the Middle East, Central America, South America, Asia, and Africa in the 1970s quality of life was much worse.

The opposite has happened in Europe and North America.

Is there a peak of what civilization can reach or was this failure of planning and believing we can do no wrong?

My life is demonstrably better than my parents' lives at the same age. I just think the internet has turned people into whiny, self-centered idiots who can't comprehend how well they've got it.

Yeah, Iran is much nicer now than in the 70s... I'm sure a lot of people in Africa are super happy about all the HIV now compare to the 70s.

You are a moron.

This isn’t true

People were healthier, the food wasn’t poison, you weren’t chained to a tracking device 24/7, drunk driving was legal, a house was 20k

maybe because too many people from Africa, south america, and the middle east kept moving to Europe and North America. The places they left improved and the places they went declined.

Crazy how that worked out right

The United States, especially her cities, was a dump in the 1970s. Crime, especially violent, was peaking and far more prevalent than today. The stats spell this out clearly.

Quality of life is probably better by many orders of magnitude in all phases of life for most people.

Life Expectancy and wealth are both much higher than they were at that time, in the West.

It feels like life is worse because of social media imo

Places like Baghdad, Gaza, Tehran and Mogadishu were frequently visited by Westerns in the 60s and 70s. Now, visitors wind up with their heads being sawed off on Al-Jazeera.

Places like Iran have already been covered. Half of Asia was still kingdoms and we were dumping agent orange in Vietnam in the 70s

You people are conflating images of the richest elite with the average person who lived in either a stick or mud hut that had the average life span of 60

I was going to post this exact thing before I saw your post. Then, I saw who made the OP and it made sense.

People in the 60s and 70s suffered from Good Ol' Days syndrome just like people do today.

You really look stupid here when many places in those areas are worse off than the 70s. The eye may have more tech in some spots but I think you’d be hard pressed to look at ran for example and say they’re better off after abandoning western culture.

And… wrong board
