Why is Harvard clinging so hard to its president?

I know people keep saying it’s because she’s a black female, but if that’s all there is, I’m certain you could terminate Claudine Gay and hire a black woman who knows how to condemn genocide and didn’t plagiarize her way to a doctorate.
Even CNN is wondering if Harvard is holding her to the same standard as its students.
I don’t understand why Harvard is voluntarily losing millions of dollars so they can die on this dumb frickin hill.

You know why..................

Because they can afford it and can't show weakness. Kind of what I wish we would have done for Will Wade.

She's not only black and claims to be female, she's probably gay as well.

It's a house of cards.
Folks like her go out kicking and screaming and will usually burn down a building or two on the way out.

Because they’re too dug in defending her if they fire her now, it’ll be confirmation she was nothing but DEI hire.

Because she is black. And for no other reason. It’s the elephant in the room of every fricking conversation that is had in our country today.

Ego. These are people with scores of high-achievement degrees and awards. Much of their self-identity is wrapped up in being knowledgeable about something. They get into their echo chambers where they tell each other how smart they are until they believe they are right about every subject under the sun.
If they fired her, it would reflect on them as being wrong in hiring and/or keeping her and that simply cannot happen. Admitting they are wrong is anathema to them.

Same reason the Establishment is going after Trump.
Optics.
They simply can't face the truths of the real world.
*Also the same reason woke Hollywood refuses to admit that its movies are crap or that 'muh-diversity' is an abysmal failure.

A lot of their money is from endowments from people long dead.
The interest on the endowment goes to the college every year.
If those people were still alive they would probably cancel the whole thing.

For starters.....she's black and Harvard is acutely sensitive to the whole racism charge. " You would not do this if she was a white male" Trust me that stupidity keeps the board up at night.
Also they hope all this just goes away and if it keeps up and it is mostly conservative and Republican voices clamoring for her removal they can pin it on that.
Ultimately the will get her to resign quietly.....and get a 7 figure book deal. Book deals = payoffs in that world. Then she can hit the circuit and complain about racism and sexism and the M5M will fete her.

Spot on. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s not like they’re on the hook for any other trouble or repercussions, so they aren’t worried about that sort of thing, i.e. legal liability or civil damages or otherwise. They quite simply cannot and will not admit they’re wrong and the other party is right. Pure pride.

They will move her out eventually after these plagiarism charges which are obviously true. She is grossly unqualified relative to former Presidents like Larry Summers. They don’t want to set off a racial shitstorm right now but they know they have to if the want to keep their elite academic credibility. Look for her to be moved out discretely and quietly sooner rather than later.

She has the goods of a few of them.

Having been raised on a dairy farm, I can bear witness that if the first cow forces their head through the gate...the whole herd will stampede out the gate. All the people hired via the color of their skins as opposed to their inept - or in this case, fraudulent) qualifications will be suspect, called out and catch derision. That cannot be allowed to happen in the DEI paradigm.

I wouldn't worry about it.
She'll probably be invited to the Obama's beach house to go paddle boarding.
