Why do people vote to raise their property taxes?

Infuriating when I'm stroking a 10k dollar check. This is in Louisiana mind you where we have ball crunching sales tax and state income tax. The agency it was for is swimming in cash, federal grants etc.

People who don’t ‘own’ property vote for it because want stuff and are too stupid to realize it is baked into their rents.

For one, a good bit of the voters don’t pay any property tax

Same reason they almost always vote for those stupid penny tax raises. They’re convinced that taxes go back into the community but they don’t and if they do they’re for the wrong shite, like a park in the middle of the ghetto or something stupid.

And, like in L.A., if the people don’t vote for the tax on Election Day, just keep “finding” ballots until you get enough votes to pass it.

People that don’t own property should not be allowed to vote on property taxes. I will bet the farm that other than a few liberal loons, these millages were passed by POC that don’t own homes. None of the three were needed, it’s mystifying that the criminals running COA are getting more money to funnel into their own personal use. Wonder how many voters Cleo and Collis Temple personally helped get to the polls?

Tell us the agency.

That’s actually terrifying to think about if you ask me. It’s getting worse with younger generations too.

You're paying $10K property taxes in LA?
Time to move.

Or... just like in Zachary... if it fails in a big election... just find a low turnout election to get it back on the ballot and pass

Jeff Landry should get rid of homestead exemption so the ghetto could be bought at the sheriff sale

That’s what they think, and they are wrong. They pay the tax when property owners pass it along.

Why should the guy who owns a business and the building he’s in have the same voting power as the illegal who leeches off the system?
Doesn’t make sense to me.

It depends. Some property taxes that are dedicated are distributed as prescribed to a specific purpose. Our neighborhood association was able to set up a security district with a private patrol by voting for a dedicated tax…
It worked…
It worked…

That's exactly it. When I was young i fell i to the bleeding heart trap of just wanting to help others. Once i started to own shite, i understood what a dumbass i was.
Especially when the value of my fricking property is already being artificially inflated by the gov by 200% over the actual market value.

The EBR millages were continuations, not new taxes. A lot of voters are renters, so they don't think they are paying it while other voters likely looked at it as "nothing changes" since it wasn't an actual increase.
All three were just as you said, for agencies already flush with cash, so anyone actually paying attention should have voted against it.
This just shows how many don't pay attention.

I’ve noticed that people are getting smart to these votes.
Community would pay for new school facilities if they’re needed, but the school people tack on money for administration perks and over the top athletic additions and the voters are saying no.
If I got to set the rules, all votes on tax increases would have to be held on Election Day every two or four years. That way special interest types and their supporters can’t ram things through in a special or off year election when only their supporters go to the polls.

Most of the people voting for these taxes are living in section 8 or some rathole that an ancestor owned with an unclear title that is assessed so low that it never draws a property tax bill
Getting rid of homestead exemption would save Louisiana. Once all these shitholes that criminals basically squat in start drawing a bill and nobody pays after 3 years it will go to the sheriff sale and a decent person can buy it
Gentrification is possible. 20 years ago poor millenials started fixing up mid city and it is ok now. Imagine if the remaining ghetto around there got evicted. We don’t need more dr Horton crap built on swamp we have plenty of housing locked up by ghetto. Save us Jeff Landry
