It's actually the biggest form of welfare. They will argue that the paid into it like they had a choice. Regardless its welfare

Just for clarification - "SSI" is an acronym for "Supplemental Security Income" (which is, actually, welfare because it is needs based - same rules as Medicaid AND not coupled to payroll contributions to an insurance fund).

Social Security (Retirement - "regular" Social Security), I believe is what you mean gets all the old folks riled up.

It isn't welfare and people do pay into it.

because it is theft, not welfare. You don't get as much out as you put in.

You might be speaking with some of the older converts, for instance those who were democrats until the late 1960s and believers in FDR's programs.

The last huge sudden move to the left by the democratic party, prior to what we're seeing in the last few years, was the 1968 DNC. Resulted in a lot of defections for them.

If you pay into something and have no choice it is not welfare.

I've never heard anyone do this, in particular.

Eh, I'll never defend SSI, but to be fair, they paid into it their entire lives, what they were told to pay (some of them). It isn't their fault the calculations were god awful to make it sustainable. As far as they are concerned, it isn't welfare. They paid into it for a promised benefit.

It is, however, welfare for some.

It is just the perfect example of the ineptitude of government and needs to go away. However, a person who says something they paid into their whole life for a benefit when they retire is not crazy in saying that isn't welfare.

frick the youth.

So the dumb fricks not working, not putting any money in to SSI are afraid its going to collapse...

and the idea is the person who has been paying it for 40-50 years is the one who should get fricked?

WORLD-- take away all social media rights of anyone under 30.... or at least anyone who does not actually PAY taxes...

I think you would see 90% of this bullshite disappear immediately.

Wait, you talk to them about SSI every single week? Damn, homie. I am not hating. I'm actually impressed it's that interesting to you.

you dont think these same people would have much preferred to invest & manage that money themselves rather than seeing it leak out of every paycheck over the last 50+ years?
