You edited the subject of this thread dude.
SSI (Supplemental Security Income) is a form of welfare for people who are disabled and haven't paid FICA. You had SOCIAL SECURITY in the original post. This thread needs to be removed. It is a joke now.

Yep. We've all been used under the guise of social "security". It's quite a remarkable political achievement really.
The government takes money out of our paychecks. It does so only with the promise to incrementally give some of the money back if and when we reach 66yrs old. Die too soon, and the government pockets the residual though. If a lender tried that, it's officers would be thrown in jail.
Instead, we're left with the fact a vast majority of aging Americans love the "gift" of Social Security. Kind of like the patsy thanking fellow players for fun night of poker even though he lost.
Not really. I’m fact dozens of companies offer this same type of program under the term deferred benefit annuity or longevity annuity. That’s essentially what SS is and it is generally more palatable for common people because it doesn’t come with a huge lump sum requirement that usually defines these deferred benefit annuities.

It's actually the biggest form of welfare. They will argue that the paid into it like they had a choice. Regardless its welfare
I can’t believe there is an 11 page thread on this.
The concepts are very simple:
If you worked your arse off your entire life and paid in against your will, it’s not welfare.
If you didn’t pay in and get the SS checks, you are on welfare.

I will take what I have paid into the program in net dollars, the government can keep my employers contributions and I will never darken the federal governments doorstep.

She's not eligible for Social Security, Winston, because she gets federal employee retirement.
Gee, what a dumb frick you are!

You can't get SS retirement unless you work and pay into the system enough quarters to qualify.
Second time I've said this.
Look, first you have to work and pay in. Then you have to live to 66. If you die before you're eligible, you get nothing. So if you live long enough and pay in 40 plus years, you've earned it. It isn't welfare, and FU if you say/think it is.

I think if you get a CSRS pension you don't qualify for Social Security.
CSRS employees don't contribute to Social Security. FERS employees (increasingly the vast majority, as CSRS was phased out in the 1980s) get a much smaller defined pension, and SS, because they contribute to Social Security.
And believe me - CSRS is a better deal, overall.

It is not welfare. It is an insurance. If you pay $20 for a $100,000 policy and die after only paying that $20 then you get $100,000.
