This unconditional surrender should keep the strait open for a long time. Iran has more money and power now than it ever had before.

Donald Trump has publicly expressed support for regime change in Iran. He called it "the best thing that could happen". He has also claimed that "regime change" had already occurred because so many top Iranian officials were eliminated in U.S. and Israeli operations

The fact that we spend so much money on our military but piss down our legs when a third world backwater country threatens to shut down a water way should be disquieting.

Tell that to the families of the 13 confirmed dead Americans who died for nothing. This conflict has been such an embarrassment

It's not a function of military ability, it's a function of political will, which is closely related to how justified people think it would be.

Now if the point is that our expenditure should aimed at a military more in line with how we actually use it then I don't know that I'd disagree.

It’s not the final agreement, hence the words Memorandum of Understanding. More negotiations will take place and verbiage will be finalized.

My problem is he never should have gotten this involved with those morons. Instead of just bombing the nuclear sites he brought all that firepower over there and then allowed them to feel like they still had some control. The midterms are pretty crucial for this country and this did nothing to help secure them for the GOP.

Iran elevated their global status w/ this war. Now we have real data on how the strait affects the global economy. Huge win for them.

I don’t like how this has ended but it’s a hell of a lot better than getting involved in another Iraq situation

I suspect that once all this reaches a point where we can effectively say it's over, there will be no doubt that we have "won". But I do not believe it will be perceived that way, and many will refuse to admit it. It will be perceived as a political loss overall due to the stated objectives (which were poorly communicated).

Democrats and their media will call it a total loss and likely cheer that result and preach it from mountaintops.

Republicans, while some will acknowledge victory... I'll use an analogy and say "we didn't cover the spread". It won't be enough for them. The questions will remain as to "was it worth it?" or not.

Too many people have different definitions of victory. Some base it on the stated objectives, others base it on physical destruction or economic results, regime change, or whether they feel like we've "stuck it to them" hard enough.

I believe Trumps definition of victory is for Iran to start playing nice with the rest of the world, and their neighbors, and to become a peaceful and productive country regardless of who is in charge. He has no true desire to totally destroy them or to keep them pinned down forever, imo.

You really weren’t as close to having boots on the ground as you had hoped. Better luck next time.

Surely they knew that would be the end result?

I know of a few people in Navy Medicine who were deployed to Northeast Africa this summer. We were a lot closer to boots on the ground than people realize. Surrendering was probably the best option for USA.

Openly stating that boots on the ground was never an option killed his negotiation power.
