Only to the ignorant US populace that consumes our media.
The US’s Obama Administration, helped remove the democratically elected President of Ukraine during the 2014 Euromadien Revolution. The basis for the removal was to economically aid Europe after Yanukovych announced he was suspending major trade agreements with Europe for energy supplies and, instead, engaging with Russia for energy needs.
Following the coup, the US helped install Euro-friendly leadership in Ukraine which immediately began threatening Russia military holdings in Savastapol, Crimea - Russia’s primary deep water port in the Western Hemisphere. Putin responded by sending by sending military resources to protect Russian interests in the port and set off the War.
Prior to the 2014 coup, the largest donor to the Clinton Foundation was Victor Pinchuk, a Ukraine oligarch who strongly advocated for greater Ukraine-NATO relations and whose family companies were heavily invested in Ukraine-European energy agreements. Pinchuk donated close to $20 million to the Clinton Foundation between 2009-2013 when Hilary Clinton was the Secretary of State and set US policy on Ukraine-Russian-European relations. He promised an additional $30 million in Foundation donations in 2014.
All of this information is readily available and was reported on extensively by global media outlets.

Trump's Unending Lies continue... nothing new.
He literally just makes things up because they support his position rather than them being true.
Here, it SOUNDS bad that Trump is helping Russia when it's undeniable that Russia invaded Ukraine. So, he bizarrely just said there were "details" unknown to the public...which rules out the regime change/US meddling because those details are known thoroughly to the public.
Many on PoliBoard are annoyed by this topic, but for those interested in why the press has generally failed to ask President Trump why he lies constantly, here's a good interview with the only journalist who asked the President why he deceives his employers so much:
Washingtonian: Questions About President Trump’s Lying
quote:
S.V. Dáte got a rare opportunity to ask President Trump a question during a briefing Thursday. He decided to go big: “Mr. President, after three and a half years, do you regret, at all, all the lying you’ve done to the American people?” Trump didn’t answer, but the clip of the exchange went viral. Washingtonian got Dáte—who’s worked as a journalist for decades, with stints at the Associated Press, NPR, and National Journal—on the phone for a few minutes to ask him about the moment.
I think the theory that Trump lies just to get through the next 5 minutes makes the most sense. It just sounds good and he knows that he won't get confronted over the fact that he's lying:
quote:
Do you think Trump considers himself a liar?
Now, there’s a couple of theories on that. You remember Ted Cruz went off on this long rant about him the day of the Indiana primary back in 2016, and he said that Donald Trump, you could hook him up to a lie detector in the morning and ask him a question. He’ll give you one answer. Another one at noon, and a third one is dinnertime. And each time he’ll pass the lie-detector tests because each time he thinks he’s telling the truth. And maybe?
But I think in his core, he understands that he’s just making stuff up. He used to call up the people at Page Six in New York and say, you know, I’m having relations with this supermodel or that person. He must know that he wasn’t actually sleeping with, you know, Carla Bruni. That’s not something you would get confused in your head. So at some level, he must understand that he’s just lying. And how much of that is he wishes he were someone else or wishes he was more accomplished than he was, and how much he does just because he can’t think of what else to say at that moment and is just trying to get through that next five minutes, I don’t know.
Here's a good explanation for why that 2020 question was the only time a journalist has directly asked the President about his lying:
quote:
I didn’t notice that anybody in the White House press corps followed up on your question. How good of a job do you think the press is doing in reckoning with Trump’s constant lying?
I think what’s happened is they just accept it as that’s who he is. And you know, I used to work for a wire service, I used to work for AP, I know what a daily deadline is, and I get that you come in with an idea of writing a particular story on a particular thing, you want a particular answer, and then you can file and be done. And with a normal person, you can do that. But with this President you cannot.
I don’t think that element has sunk in to enough of my colleagues, that it doesn’t matter what he said about the payroll tax or about, you know, the F-35 or about the coronavirus vaccine, because he’s just making it up. What difference does it make what he says? To think that asking him repeatedly about these very specific topics is going to make one little bit of difference in the end is ridiculous. And you know, some of my colleagues were not happy that I did that, because they fear, I think, that the general level of access might decrease if he thinks he’s going to get questions like that. But really, this is democracy, and democracy only works if we’re getting accurate information from those people. They work for us. They’re not doing us a favor by telling us what they’re doing. It’s kind of their job.

You think it’s “thoroughly known” by the US public that a puppet, illegitimate Ukraine regime threatened Russia’s most important military installation in the Western Hemisphere BEFORE Russia sent its military into Crimea?
I’m not even sure this is what Trump is alluding to because he is all over the place. But the bottom line is that this Ukraine mess is a mess created by typically, shitty American foreign policy with a massive underwave of Clinton corruption.

So Ukraine INVITED Russian soldiers into Ukraine??? Talk about ignorant.

You're talking about the possible REASONS that Russia invaded Ukraine. That certainly might be true...I believe it is. But, as you point out, that is widely known. President Trump was referring to details that were unknown to the public.
Rather than lying about mysterious "details," wouldn't it be better if the President just said: "Russia was provoked. Putin's invasion was justified. Either Ukraine concedes the territory that Russia controls or the US will drop all support for Ukraine."

Yeah, I’m the ignorant one here instead of the guy that thinks foreign policy has the good/evil dynamics of a Disney movie.
Ukraine’s actions, with massive assistance from Western actors, set a course of actions that ultimately led to the Russian invasion of Crimea.
You can try to dumb down your already limited position to the word “invited” all you want, but at the end of the day, Ukraine was not some innocent country that Putin just up and decided to invade on a random Tuesday.

Because Trump is a clown that has been especially bad in this second term.

We don't disagree about the causes of the War. As for Trump's being a clown about explaining this, we can agree.

Let’s say Ukraine started it…. Why does that mean we should support Putin’s communistic Russia?

Personally, I think we should be neutral. The point of the thread is that the President should be open with us about what he is doing and why he is doing it.
Posted on 10/18/26 at 3:13 pm to IvoryBillMatt
Presidents are not open to the public you're in fantasy land. And Presidents are not open to the public during conflicts and wars. Lincoln, Johnson, FDR, Bush and most of the others.

Well let’s say Trump knows that Ukraine actually invaded Russia and reveals it to us….
Why would that mean it’s acceptable to support Russia?
I mean there is no explanation that I can think of to support helping Russia.

There are definitely two sides to that argument. I'm just complaining about the President treating us as if we weren't his employers.

This and the US wants desperately to weaken Russia and have control of its resources. Putin called our coup and took Crimea. If Russia ran a coup and installed a pro Russian regime in Mexico and created an alliance and brought in Russian weapons and intelligence, it’s safe to say the US would respond militarily.

Last time that happened we did not wake up till years too late and they were invading Poland. Putin may not be Hitler but he sure looks more and more like Stalin every day.
