re: Where does this idea come from that supposedly 40 years ago we lived large at age 20?

But if you read closely my posts in this thread I'm not trying to say young people don't have it hard. Young people always have it hard in today's group is no different. But what is a little bit different is this delusion that today's group has it uniquely hard. That's Just Pure Fantasy
Oh this board? No way

And people love to take them out knowing they're not going to have to pay them back for years. What do you figure the typical car price would cost if the government was subsidizing car loans that you didn't have to start paying back for 5 years
This place is nice as hell. A million times more luxurious than where i lived at school. But that is 75% of the available stock around campus

It's not about living large.
It's about the fact your house probably cost 65k on your 25k per year salary.
Your purchasing power was much higher, and then your generation got into political power and it all went to shite.

My first job out of college I was making $24k. That’s the equivalent of $12/hour.
Same here and worked a ton of hours (not from home either). Had a roommate and we bought a single wide trailer and rented a spot in a trailer park. After a year working and saving a down payment I bought a used F-150 that still had some warranty on it.

Yeah no one is asking for anything crazy, most young folks can barely get by. The sheer hate boomers have for them is crazy.

BS. I work with a bunch of them and most have a poor work ethic and basically demand a manager level position within a year of entry level employment or start threatening to leave.

quote:25k was higher than median household income in 1985. Today's household income is median over $80,000 a year and that's despite the fact that the marriage rate is 40% lower now which makes household income appear lower because there are fewer homes with two earners inside the same house. And that's before we talk about the fact that the house is you're comparing aren't remotely similar. This is the problem. You're believing little stupid fricking memes that have about 25 words on them because you want to believe them

I grew up on a farm. By the time I was in elementary school I could drive a tractor and was working until dark after school. I worked full time while going to college and paid for my tuition in cash and had no debt. I was the first person in my family to go to college. Far too many people don’t know how to sacrifice and don’t want to which is why we are in the shape we are in

You're living an upside down world. Your generation literally created a term just to hate the older people. I acknowledge that you guys have it hard because young people always have it hard. The problem is you have the delusion that you have it uniquely hard

Good point. And I agree.
I guess I am saying its parents like me that contribute to the "problem" as well. Forgetting college, i am certain i will subsidize my sons as they enter the working world just so they dont have to live in shithhole type places i had to live.

Really depends on the area and state.
And even then it's a trade off. Something good for something bad, at least around here.

And yet you were able to afford an apartment. That’s not the case today. That’s the issue.
Out of college, I made $30k/yr and paid 1/3 of it for an apartment. Now if you can't find a way to bring in $60k/yr right now then that's on you, but I promise you can find plenty of apartments for $1,700/mo.

Yep, I do too and this generation is absolutely useless almost universally. Occasionally one or two will have a decent work ethic but it’s rare. Constantly complaining, want frequent breaks, can’t or won’t work on weekends or holidays, and ask for raises every other pay period regardless of deserving it.

This is an opportunity that young men today don't have as good.
Thanks to feminism the pool of good dateable women is much smaller. So many of them have the princess syndrome and won't even talk to a dude if he isn't at least 6 feet tall and makes 6 figures.
And there's also the fact that many men over 25 don't want a woman that has spread their legs to every Tom, Dick, and Tyron in the city.

I had to duck 2 slaps from one of those.
She told me those preposterous ideas.
I answered back with "Why would such a desirable guy as that settle for you?"
