A cheap apartment in this area is like $800. A full time 2 week paycheck making minimum wage doesn’t cover half of that. Hell making $10/hr isn’t going to make it much better. Most hourly jobs don’t schedule people more than 35 hours a week.
Again. Minimum wage in 1985 working 35 hours would have gotten you about $120 before deductions. Median rent in 1985 was about $400. The fairy tale you've been sold that we were living large is still a fricking fairy tale.

My first job was in 1981 at $3.45:an hour and even back then there wasn't any living large on that.

I'm 55, most everyone I knew and myself, we lived in the ghetto when we moved out. You always hear, "we can't afford to live in a decent area" well we simply didn't live in decent areas and we were ok with that.
Ghetto areas back then and now are completely different.

And everyone is wealthy enough now that our young people can afford $1000 tickets to listen to Taylor Swift sing songs for two hours.
You’ve proven to yourself how fortunate everyone, including young people, are these days.

Add in utilities, transportation to and from work, groceries that’s not much money to live on.
We all had 2 roommates to split the costs. 3 people share rent, utilities, etc...and you can get by if you don't waste money on luxuries. Also many times people would work with our roommate(s) so we could car pool to work.

Wow you really had it hard. You are really a hero for lifting yourself up by your bootstraps. Congratulations on all your success Boomer.
First, could you go 5 minutes without being soft AF? How about contributing to the discussion.
On that, I’m a boomer - my generation had it a shite ton better than my parents’ generation. And they had it better than their parents. That’s how it works. Life gets better and easier here.
What’s different now is young people have been led to believe this general rule magically skipped over them, in spite of the incredible technological advances of the last 50 years.
Young people have been sold a false narrative by Leftists.

I think we can agree there are entitled shitheads who think the are owed something just for existing.
In my line of work all of my employees are from impoverished backgrounds. They aren’t looking to purchase wild elaborate amenities. They want to be able to feed their kids and provide for their families. It’s a fact it’s more difficult to do that in today’s environmental climate.
