I'm not quite a boomer and frankly there's plenty to complain about regarding Boomer policies that we still live with today. But the ability to afford an apartment ain't fricking one of them

And yet you were able to afford an apartment. That’s not the case today. That’s the issue.

Sounds stupid. Why did you do that?

Do you think grocery stores stock themselves now?

All of this while driving a two door Toyota Tercel with vinyl seats 4 Speed air condition but no stereo. My apartment was perfectly clean but it was less than 400 square feet. If you asked young people today to live like that they would have a complete fricking meltdown. But almost everybody I knew was living like that. I don't know who's telling these stupid fricks the fairy tales they are believing but it's downright comical to hear.
You think there aren't young people living modest lives today?
Why would you think that? Are you under the impression that all lower class young people are spending 7 dollars a day at some boutique coffee shop? They're not. That's the upper middle class.

The biggest fantasy is the whole “everyone should be able to afford a house” myth. I lived with roommates up until I got married and we didn’t buy our first house until after being married for a year with two incomes.
The only single oeople that I know who bought their own homes were over 30 in a solid job or had family money.

They also don’t seem to go and get roommates anymore. It’s like everyone wants their own apartment.
I work with people in their 20s that make over 6 figures and have roommates

I'm sure there are but they probably aren't the ones bitching about not being able to forward the average apartment on a below average salary

I didn't have a cell phone when I had my first job either but cell phones weren't as common back then. Cell phones are unfortunately an integral part of living in modern society. Even a "dumb phone" might limit you from participating in a lot of the modern world. And I'm one of those old crotchety bastards that thinks people spend too much time on their phone so I'm not advocating for that type of behavior.

Sorry to hear that. That reframes my opinion.

Probably more practical to keep most of the operation running during daytime hours even if it causes some inconvenience to the shoppers

Yeah I hear you. It's really more of a supply issue IMO. Nimby's are a big part of that. It's not easy to get high density housing built in some areas. The geritocracy is a real thing (referring to people much older than yourself)

I got married in 1992 after 3 years in the army. I was 21 years old. No bad habits no drinking, etc. I got a job working in a hospital and a second job on the weekend.
One bedroom apartment, one car. Some weeks, we had to eat potatoes as it was the only thing we could afford. It got really fancy when we could afford Lipton dried soup packets to flavor our spuds.
I started trade school and got a construction job at minimum wage. I worked all day, went to school all night and worked a second job on the weekends.
The one bedroom apartment raised our rent 25 dollars and we had to move to a dumpier apt. I graduated trade school and then had to move 800 miles north for a job in my field making 10.25 an hour. I felt rich.
If someone had it easy, it sure as hell wasn’t me.

The point isn't that being young and poor is somehow drastically better today. It's that it's not really that much different than it was for us. So them all running around with these stupid fricking memes that seem to imply we were living on Easy Street is just silly. I'm sure it sucks arse just about as bad now as it did then. But frankly we were having the time of our lives! I was at the beach every fricking weekend chasing arse. Along with all of my similar friends. We weren't in some sort of State of Shock that we were living broke. We expected it

GFY, Nate. You fricking whiners are faced with the same issues we were faced with. We all came into the world with nothing. It is on you if you can't find a way to make yourself useful enough to live the lifestyle that you want. Think more and bitch less.

This is plainly false. It's like you dumbasses are fricking immune to information. I could afford an apartment I just couldn't afford the average apartment. You stupid frick seem to think you're supposed to be able to afford the average apartment on below average pay. None of us thought that
A cheap apartment in this area is like $800. A full time 2 week paycheck making minimum wage doesn’t cover half of that. Hell making $10/hr isn’t going to make it much better. Most hourly jobs don’t schedule people more than 35 hours a week.
Add in utilities, transportation to and from work, groceries that’s not much money to live on.
