1998-2001 are the only 4 years that the government ran a surplus in the last half century. Clinton was the beneficiary of the massive reduction of defense spending brought on by Reagan bringing an end to the Cold War. The MIC and the Alphabet Agencies ramped up the spending after 9/11. I’d still take Clinton over every Democratic President in my lifetime that began with Ike in the White House.

When Bill Clinton took office very few people in America had a computer or a cell phone. When Bill Clinton left office the majority of people in America had both a computer & a cell phone. He & America both benefited tremendously from the tech boom.

If it wasn't for Ross Perot he would not have been President. I say that as someone who loved Ross Perot & his policies would have been much better than Bush Sr, Clinton, or Dole.

Clinton was re-elected because he was doing a good job, and not many people gave a shite about Monica Lewinsky...

NAFTA

That was my second Presidential election I voted in. As I recall it was a somewhat lackluster 1st term, he only won because so many votes were split between Bush and Perot. SatanQueen really tried to push government run healthcare which rightly freaked people out(sadly too many people fell for it during Zero44) and she seemingly stuck her nose in everything which made people wonder, whose really the Prez. Clinton really got a boost from the Republicans Contract with America that really helped the economy and started getting things done. Clinton smartly rode that wave. If the Rs had run a better candidate, they most likely would have won. I remember watching the RNC convention with Dole and it felt like a funeral, or at least a bunch of people going through the motions. It also didn't help everyone booing Colin Powell during his speech because he kept bringing up how bad Murica had been to blacks. People were tired of hearing how bad white America was, which the Dems were pushing even back then. Otherwise very little excitement in the pick. He was a good honorable man vs the slimy punk kid and his shithead wife. Dumbasses held their nose and voted debauchery.

I don't think he had cigar'd her yet. That didn't come along until his second term I believe.
