What were some of his weaknesses/negatives from voters when he was running for reelection?

For the older people on here who lived this election, what did people not like about him during this time?

His approval rating was 54% before election day and yet he won a massive 370 electoral votes

I doubt if anyone could have beaten Clinton then. Certainly not an old fart like Dole.

Remember the MSM was essentially on his campaign staff. Aside from Limbaugh there really was no alternative media, of the kind that would break through w/Drudge a couple of years later

Sex with anything that moved.

ETA: Watch Primary Colors.

quote:

Primary Colors is a highly accurate reflection of the spirit and culture of Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign, but it is a work of fiction. Rather than a strict documentary, the film is a roman à clef (a story with real people disguised as fictional characters) that captures the chaotic, exhausting, and morally grey reality of American politics.

ETA: IMO the thing that got him going was when he told Cali Gov Brown to chill out in the Dem debates. And that he played a horned instrument on Arsenial Hall Show. It was a popular late night show until it got too black.

yep - and promised to undo it as soon as elected

But when he saw how effective and popular it was, he adopted it as his own = and the media assisted greatly

Republicans controlled congress so he had to play ball. He probably was a top 5 president of all time.

Run the numbers. Because of the 3rd party candidate stripping the GOP candidate, Ol' Slick got in with less than 13.843% of the vote of the American people both times eh won.

It is why the MSM (Lying Media) tried so hard to make Americans believe he was popular. Yep, the sheep fell for it.

Didn't matter. Republicans clearly weren't trying to win with Dole as their candidate.

That is actually a difficult feat to achieve during an election year. Presidents tend to hover around the 40s for much of recent history.
