What led to the gentle parenting. The parents got soft?

bullshite! That's Hillary Clinton it-takes-a-village talk. There was no community raising my four children. My wife and I raised them. We made sure they behaved, and they had to meet our expectations or else. They are all four in their 30's, responsible and married. None will get divorced either.
Someone posted the answer above; it's gentle parenting. Raising a bunch of pussies.

Yes, and I think it would be awesome of you to take him in and fix everything his parents failed with him. You should definitely do that.

The hard core adults have died or faded away. When I was a young adult there still were adults who survived the depression and some also fought in WW2 and Korea. Listening to the hard times they went through made us appreciate modern life. However they were fun loving, but no nonsense. 1980 is closer to the end of WW2 than it is to 2025.

Good luck with that.

Shitty parenting. I have a friend with a son the same age as mine (both in college). He’s having problems with his son and I’m not. He said he always tried to make things easy for his son and take care of him. I told him I wanted my son to have problems and have to figure out how to solve them. He thinks I’m cruel.
Maybe I am cruel, I wanted my kid to feel a little pain and fight through it.

You know you’re getting old when you start talking about this.
Has there ever, in the history of the world, been a generation that thought younger generations weren’t entitled lazy POS? I think not

Everyone just get on wit it and blame the Boomers.

I laughed at your response. I know some good ole boys who thought they’d never be divorced. It takes a woman to decide she isn’t happy and all those vows disappear. It’s happens all the time to good men.

Don't need luck. The job was finished 15 years ago.

Men typically don’t initiate divorce. It’s around 80% women. If a good man gets left by a woman because she isn’t “happy” then I’m not blaming his parents. That’s a problem with expectations and a lot of the western women of today.

Gentle parenting.
I bet many young males, today, would get offended at a dirty joke. I heard some good dirty jokes from older family members when I was a young man.
Polish jokes today would send them into a tizzy.

This. I have a freshman at a very popular, very liberal, private university.
Apparently he is “cool”
I am sure his friends never were put out the truck in August and made to walk to the babysitters because they acted like an arse on the school bus.
I am also sure that his associates have never mounted a 35” mud tire without a tire machine.
School of hard knocks happened frequently in this house.

Social media...it completely wrecked what little self esteem the trophy generation developed as house bound screw watching hermits.. They are almost to a person, soft, unable to carry on an actual conversation and unable to handle even the slightest criticism without becoming suicidal..

And its the women who make out like a bandit in the divorce. I think many states divorce laws were written when the male was the bread winner and had a career and the women stayed at home to raise the children and be a home makers. Times have changed. Women now have careers.
Plus if the male does initiate the divorce its because the woman drove him to it with her attitude and her treatment towards him. Once a woman turns on a man its game over.

Why is it that so many young adults... talking the 20-32 year old range just cannot seem to function normally. They all claim to have panic attacks, or anxiety over simple things like answering a damn phone or going to the store.
Was it the constant cell phone use(always being in their phone and not interacting with people) over the past decade that messed them up.. This really needs to be looked into, although we know it won't because big pharma LOVES all the billions of dollars they are getting from selling SSRI drugs...
Or is this from the participation trophy generation. It really sucks because it makes finding good employees nearly impossible.
A lot of things. They're among the first generation to grow up with PCs and cell phones as toddlers. A lot of these kids had a tablet thrust in front of them entirely too early and it affected their development.
They grew up in an age where everyone told their parents the world was too dangerous so they rarely went out and explored. I would imagine many of us here ran and played all over the neighborhood and beyond, so long as we were home by dark. Today that's likely going to earn a call to the police or CPS.
Those are lost opportunities to meet new people and forge friendships. Now kids dont meet new kids unless their parents arrange a play date. This isn't even touching all the fallout of Covid shutting the nation down for most of a year.

It’s the parents. 100%

Parents coddling them or using medication to solve non existent problems.
Truth is at some point in our youth we all had anxieties or fears over stupid shite that was outside our comfort zone at the time. Part of growing up is learning to deal with things you may not particularly want to do or overcoming fears/anxiety.
Parents today want to coddle or shield their children rather than teach them how to deal with things. Then they get into the real adult world and have no fricking clue how to function as an adult
