I don't know what's more amusing, this or the apparent fear that Louisiana might go blue.

my son lives in Texas but goes to Lsu. He cannot show his student ID and vote in Louisiana. Student ID does not prove you reside in the state or even this country.

if texas cared about voter fraud, they would make it possible to vote without a DL - i mean photo ID and mail at your current address is more than sufficient to get your DL, why would that not be enough to vote?

oh yeah, to make sure those pesky dems don't get to vote.

This argument really makes no sense.

Yes, if you want to get a DL, you can present your mail and an ID (I'm not sure if that's correct but I'll use it for this argument). However, by doing so, I assume you are becoming a citizen of that state. By your reasoning, an out of state student who is not a resident can register and vote by using mail and a student ID.

Concealed handgun licenses have more information associated with them (fingerprint, background check, home address, EXPIRATION DATE) and there are also legal consequences for having wrong/outdated owner information. Student ID's are nothing more than debit cards with a picture on it.

^Read this, Drac

But don't let your simplistic, over-reactionary "Right = guns therefore this is biased" conclusion get in the way of that. It's not "mental gymnastics," it just actually takes reason and logic to understand.

So you're saying if a student is from out-of-state, they don't get an ID?

Not all students are US citizens and student IDs aren't issued by the state. Voter ID requires a government issued form of ID

Why is this so hard to understand?

Are you really this stupid?

Schools verify your residency, but your id doesn't show your address, DOB, or anything other than your picture. That is why you can't use your student id to buy beer, ammo, rent a movie, etc. Also yes, public universities are state institutions but they do not issue state id's.

Because you are all too stupid to get an ID. We know.

you do realize that there is an entirely separate voter registration process, right?

Are student ID's a valid form of ID in order to register to vote?

You don't need to show ID to register to vote, at least in CO you don't. You just have to provide an address.

But to get a DL, all you need to do is show your old ID and a bill, at least where I live. Why should this not be sufficient for voting?

BTW, when I went to school, I registered to vote in my school's district and I didn't change my drivers license. I do not believe I committed voter fraud at the time, and do not believe I did it now.

Right, and one can move after they are registered to vote at that residence. Which is why an ID that verifies residency should be required to vote. It's common sense.

Doesn't matter. The acceptable forms of ID are listed on the Texas Sec. of State's website.

A voter who has not been issued a driver’s license or social security number may register to vote, but such voter must submit proof of identification when presenting himself/herself for voting or with his/her mail-in ballots, if voting by mail. These voters’ names are flagged on the official voter registration list with the annotation of “ID.” The “ID” notation instructs the poll worker to request a proper form of identification from these voters when they present themselves for voting, unless they are a voter with a permanent exemption on the voter registration certificate. The voter must present one of the seven (7) acceptable forms of identification:

Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
Texas concealed handgun license issued by DPS
United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
United States passport

Of course not. You can't even get in a bar with a student ID.

I had no idea one was required to be a Texas resident, and to be registered to vote in Texas, in order to attend university there.
