Um, one is government issued, one is not. I mean, you find that odd?

But to get a DL, all you need to do is show your old ID and a bill, at least where I live. Why should this not be sufficient for voting?

Showing a utility bill only establishes residency, not citizenship. Citizens can vote. Non-citizens cannot (at least, they're not supposed to).

You don't need to show ID to register to vote, at least in CO you don't. You just have to provide an address.

We're talking about TX

Yes, your old DL, not a student ID. It's not a valid form of ID to change your DL, so it shouldn't be a valid ID to cast a vote.

BTW, when I went to school, I registered to vote in my school's district and I didn't change my drivers license. I do not believe I committed voter fraud at the time, and do not believe I did it now.

So you voted in a state you were not a resident of or did you simply change districts within the same state?

you have to register to vote first. residency can be easily verified then.

Again, student ids are handed out loosely. I could easily get different names put on multiple ids with my picture on them.

I don't know what's more amusing, this or the apparent fear that Louisiana might go blue.

What the Hell are you talking about? Louisiana is red in presidential elections but has still voted Mary in three times. It wouldn't be going blue, it would be doing as it always has.

THIS! This is the answer you insufferable Democrats! Good lord! It's not that difficult a concept.

I see you are in full troll mode today.

Solid though. 8/10

It would be better spent on the SEC Rant though.

if texas cared about voter fraud, they would make it possible to vote without a DL

Umm, you can vote with just a photo ID so long as it is issued by the state of Texas. You should probably actually read the voter id law.

you can register by mail in texas.

Right, but that won't work in texas. You have to have your DL with your current address, they won't accept a bill and your old DL, like they would for getting a DL which is ridiculous.

It was a different state. Since i lived there full time, i considered myself a resident. I filed taxes under that state. I simply didn't have a DL.

Sorry they didn't take your student ID as proof when you went to vote today.

so you're saying the schools don't verify residency before issuing a tuition bill

You know how voter registration is in Texas, don't play stupid.

To get a student ID all I have to show is that I'm a student. The university can verify that to enrollment records. They have no need to verify my address since it's not on the ID.

To vote in Texas all you have to do is complete the voter registration form and send it in to the county elections department.

So under your plan, I can illegally register to vote, show my student ID with no address, and that's OK? Why not show my photo ID from the local swimming pool? (and yes, our local swimming pool has them for season pass holders)

You idiot.

Student ID's are not recognized as valid Voter ID in Texas per Texas statues.

Are you suggesting that people from out of state that go to school in texas and has not changed residency and registered to vote should be able to vote in Texas because they have in your opinion a valid ID in the form of a student ID?

How big of a mentally challenged moron are you? I really hope you aren't a lawyer. Enjoy Wendy getting her arse handed to her tonight.

Not reading through this whole thread, but the reason for this is obvious. One person, one vote. Students, are transient by nature, hence that ID ain't worth dooky in terms of identifying district residency. You honestly mean to tell me college students (A) don't have a driver's license, or (B) are so stupid as to be incapable of figuring out an alternative? Good Lord DS!

I am on record as opposing this particular law because it appears there is no free-of-charge path to obtaining ID. There may be a free path I'm unaware of though. That concern would not really be pertinent to college students, though.

I don't know what's more pathetic, your lack of intelligence or the fact that you consider yourself to be a 49er "fan".
