I'm pretty sure 78 is what ERCOT in Texas recommends too.

Are people being forced to do it?

The TVA that has supplied power to me my whole life and has never had a problem meeting demand now asks me to volunteer access to my smart thermostat on high demand days. Too bad we shuttered those coal fired power plants. Exactly how long do you think they will ask for volunteers before they demand that to access their power you must give them access to your thermostat?

We probably need to add a gazillion more electric cars to the grid to get us through these tough times.

I bet there is plenty of excess power for EVs in NYC right now.

Not yet...it's coming. They've already set all the public buildings at 78.
Well I froze my arse off in the Museum of Natural History in NYC last Saturday. Felt like a steam bath when we walked out on to Central Park. So this must be a brand new Mandami Mandatefor public buildings.

78 is at least better than the 84 degrees the Biden admin recommended.

Mine is currently set on 66

South Carolina government buildings must be set at 68 or below. Many of the small percentage of state government workers who aren't morbidly obese actually run heaters in their office in the summer. Your tax dollars making the obese comfortable until your tax dollars pay for their exaggerated health care costs.
