That's a paved road five miles outside of a town of 50000.
Gravel roads have to be in the 90% range in rural kansas.
There are only 13 towns above 30000 in the whole state. Nine of them are within 60 miles of KC.

Otherwise, she's over there doing her own thing.
We were spoiled by our low-parental-guidance first born. Always planning, always diligently over achieving. He graduated with a 4.0 with little input from us.
Our youngest experienced more freedom than he could handle his first semester. He called me up before Thanksgiving and said his grades were going to be bad. If we hadn't intervened and gave direction, he would have brought home a 1.9
He would have lost his scholarships. He still had a month left in the semester. There was still time to turn things around. He had been going to class, but just got overwhelmed. We had to tell him to make office appt with his profs and ask for ways to pull his grades up. He ended up with a 2.5
I micro managed after that semester. He's been on the dean's list every semester since. He'll graduate with honors next May 3.6ish
That one semester is all that's holding him back from a superior gpa. He just needed someone to show him the path.

When you factor in $10/gallon gas, the cost of the vehicle and lower comparable salaries, you should be able to see why vehicles are small.
My best friend married a German. We haven't talked about this in 20 years, but he told me that professional lessons were required before obtaining a drivers license. At that time were equal to $1500 US.
That's a big stumbling block before you can even purchase a car.
There is nothing cheap about driving a vehicle over there.
