Trump and his administration is the biggest clown show I've ever seen. And all this ineptitude and mismanagement will do is cause a recession, but hay, don't worry, the goal to rob from the poor and middle class so that the rich can get more tax breaks will get accomplished

It sounds like Trump put him in as an "Acting" role. Articles are poorly written, but he may not have been intended to be the full time ICE Director. His bio reads like a full time bureaucrat. At any rate, he's been reassigned inside ICE, not fired.
