This doesn't mean private lenders can't step into the gap and loan money. Better yet the Institutions themselves can take on all of the risk for the student and their field of study (Harvard has 57B endowment - they should make the University free).

Well, teachers are screwed.

It may be preserved since it appears they will be looking at average starting salaries with that degree. Those "student" athletes will keep that average up

A liberal education was not about job training. Job training was something done by companies and trade unions.

For women: Criminal Justice/Sociology
What they think: I’m going to be an FBI agent that is highly intelligent.
Reality: worthless degree. Literally will not open the door to your local PD.
For men: Sports administration
What they think; I’m going to be an athletic director or a front office exec.
Reality: another worthless degree originally designed to get athletes through school.

Definitely support. But my first reaction is, if compared to that school, does a school contract and make it "communications with emphasis on gender studies" to lump in gender studies with students who go on to use a "real" communications degree?

This got downvotes? Okay, who are the two limp-wristed leftists?
You and everyone else that upvoted. The way forward is to eliminate government loans altogether. Let banks with skin the game decide what degrees and students are worth the risk.

As far as the coffee barristas with college degrees, the most common I've encountered were degrees in Theatre/Drama. It's true that you can make tons of money when you become a star. But the odds are 1,000 to one against you ever becoming a star.

Is there a list of majors where this is true? Not someone’s guesses. I know a 4 year degree in Bio or Chem doesn’t lead to much earning potential.

Need to go after the predatory lending practices as well.
How exactly do lenders force one to take a loan they never applied for?

Many end up in porn.

An 18 year old with zero education regarding finances should not be able to get a 200k unsecured loan at 15% interest. It’s fricking criminal.

Dude! This! In the early 2,000’s they were handing out $40k private loans like candy. LSU advisors would just about fill out the form for you. Are they still doing the same thing?

It’s about damn time. These professors in these programs sit on their butts collecting a check and retirement for doing little to nothing on top of overseeing a worthless degree program. Tax payers are paying for this. The whole system is bad; try to get ahold of your department head especially advisors. They are flat out worthless and don’t do their jobs!!

agree 100%. i went to a fairly expensive private college and i had no idea what i was signing when i took out the loans. just wasn't old enough/experienced enough to appreciate what that kind of debt entailed. if i could do it over, i'd have just gone to ut-chattanooga. go mocs!
that said, the idea of picking and choosing programs to either receive federal money or none based on averages of salaries is dumb. way too many variables. another poorly thought out - if at all - decision from trump

There is no reason for someone to go $500k in debt due to private school tuition.

Sounds like average salary is the only variable. You must be one of those performing arts majors.
