Trump 1 vs Trump 2

At this point which of the 2 terms has he upheld his promises better? Early on I thought the 2nd would be so much better, but it hasn’t happened like I hoped. Outstanding on immigration and the border, but everything else not so much.

Well that should go without saying.
I am asking for comparison against himself, not her or anyone else.

I think pre covid Trump was the best Trump.
Whatever iteration, he’s faced pushback from every dem, every media, every court- hard to get much done as a one man band.
I think he got hoodwinked by Covid, and I think he’s possibly, probably, getting hoodwinked on Iran.

He seems tired in this term. Just age I guess. Not nearly as sharp as before.
Btw, this thread will get downvoted to hell and probably whacked. So I wouldn't expect too much here.

The first is single most consequential event in the last 20 years
Iran is clearly going to be the defining moment of this term.
If he goes 0/2 then that’s pretty bad.

Second is better, but he is still surrounded by advisors who work against him.....and us.
We aren't getting the mass deportations that he promised and we haven't seen arrests of the people in Washington responsible for so many crimes.
I agree, it hasn't been as I had hoped.

The biggest difference is appointments. In first term he didn't know 90% of the beaurocrats out there so he just took advice. While out of office he learned who was good and who was bad. He was ready for term two on day one.

Trump 45s cabinet kept stabbing him in the back. Trump 47s cabinet are a bunch of yes men who tell him what he wants to hear.

Frankly, I wish another Republican except Nikki Haley would have gotten the nominatio
Growing real tired of a trump and believe he could have done long term damage to the party

There were zero options bat were good outside of Trump except desantis. Way to out yourself as a uniparty retard. Not that we didn’t already know that.

We aren't getting the mass deportations that he promised

This is what I am struggling with the most. At 1st I was all on board, but the weakness with how he is handling things is really hurting the perception of American strength throughout the world. That is what he was so good on in the past.

I tend to agree and just remember the momentum that he was carrying until Covid.

Not even close! 1st term a hundred times better.
He went from possibly being one of the greatest presidents ever, to just being average IMO if he finishes this term like he started. Still a ways to go though.

It felt like a Golden Age, full of promise, even with the pushback. I miss that slice of time.

Trump 1 was far better on foreign policy and regulatory issues, in part because he had the support of the Senate to get key appointees in place. However, he never had any real control over his own military, justice department, or intelligence agencies.
However, Trump 2 is better on law enforcement issues and immigration enforcement and far worse on foreign policy. He has been largely neutered on regulatory reform by a GOP led Senate essentially in open revolt against him. The same problem has prevented him from appointing new judges as well. Trump 2 has also been making some interesting moves on healthcare.

Pace of judicial nominations was much higher in the 1st term. Got backstabbed by McCain on Obamacare skinny repeal. COVID policy was terrible. Russiagate torpedoed him from the Deep State on Day 1. Amounts of leaks/cabinet turnover was terrible.
Second term- very few judicial nominations, but more progress on the border and deportations. Jury out on Iran but if the present situation continues that will be viewed by history as a disaster. If Alito or Thomas retire by 2028, I hope he appoints a rock-solid conservative and not some yes man like Emil Bove.
First term setbacks seem to be more the doing of the Swamp while second term setbacks seem to be driven by Trump's own decisions.
