It looks like that because there's literally a camera in every human on earth's hands. But I'm pretty sure there's been much more violent times in our history.

This is the problem. Several cities have seen dramatic decreases in mass violence and murders recently. Your algorithm is pushing every protest, violent act, and murder that happens on you right now.

Yes.
To be fair... KCT qualified with "since I've been alive".
Things I did before that I don't do now... take public transportation, spend time in crowded venues like shopping malls, let my kids roam like I did as a child, ect...
Maybe the same amount of people are doing violent shenanigans as ever they did... a difference now is we don't adequately punish violent criminals nor do we restrain the insane.

We live in one of the most peaceful times in human existence that is simultaneously one of the most interconnected times in human history, and it will continue to get even more connected, for good or for ill. I think that you probably just need to tune out the news for a few weeks, give yourself a media cleanse.
Maybe the following context will ease some of your anxiety:
The soviet union lost about 27 million people in world war two. If 100,000 Americans died of fentanyl overdoses every year, it would take 270 years to match the Soviet deaths in just that one war.
The black death in the 14th century was the last time that the global human population actually decreased year over year, even with all the atrocities and wars and famines of the next 700 years, the human species has continued to grow and to certain extent thrive, at least in free-market and open societies.
So relax baw, its going to be alright.

This isn't the most violent time. But it's the most theft ever. When I was a kid stores never had cameras or security personnel because nobody stole anything. There was no such thing as a porch pirate. Now I'm learning that mail theft is being done by post office employees.
