Yes
I think it’s a sign of social decay though. Beyond the fact that our leaders are awful and want to throw us all in prison, for wrong think, there’s a real uptick in criminality. And that comes from the cultural damage society has sustained.

My first day in elementary psychology: "Punish behaviors you don't want repeated, and rewards the behaviors you do want repeated."
Color me shocked. I got frog marched home from a drug store for stealing $7 worth of gum as a kid, and my mom popped me with a backhand with her engagement ring shortly thereafter. I stopped stealing shite.

We need law enforcement that is respected. On the police side, the pay needs to be raised and the requirements more strict so you attract high quality individuals. On the cultural side, we need parents to instill respect and self accountability into their children.

Ok, fight against the teacher's unions. You do get, I'm sure, that the unions make sure broom pushers get paid, too, right?
Agreed, parents are trash, but probably not for the way you think. Trying to avoid RA. If we start with white women helicopter parents, is that OK?

If this is directed to my comment, I have no idea what you are trying to say.

Wrong. The United States has recognized inalienable, God given (meaning naturally obtained to the fig atheists reading) rights of existence since its inception. One of them being a right to protect ones self from harm. The idea of police is a veil for people who dont have the guts to stick up for themselves.

I have never called the police. Some of us feel our Constitutional rights are quite adequate in handling the situation. Today's scared and trigger happy cops are just as likely to shoot the homeowner rather than the intruder. Like the elderly deaf man in Kansas that police shot to death. The cops weren't even at the right house. Their defense was that the old man wasn't complying. Nevermind that be was deaf and they had no right being at his home in the first place. These are the pussies in blue that you blindly support. You are disgusting and are the reason this country is in such as mess. I bet you loved when those cops kneeled before the BLM rioters.

There's got to be a balance here. We need police. However police should be responsible for their actions and not have such blanket immunity.
Right now it's not even certain that the tax dollars they drain will come from their budget. They can basically get a city sued and cost millions depending on how egregious their actions are but personally they won't be liable.
They also belong to some of the worst unions out there in the FoP. Talk about a union the protects the worst of the worst and keeps them on the streets overreaching....

Yeah a slight uptick after 20+ years of major decline.
The 80s through mid-90s were a fricking war zone in the US.

It's police mission creep.
Get them back to working basic crimes like murder, rape, theft.
We don't need jailing people for mean tweets.

A bad society grows law enforcement.

You’re blaming one piece of the criminal justice system. This is a whole-of-government failure.

There was a day when law enforcement lived up to their motto of "Protect and Serve", much like gov't in general was supposed to do. Sadly they days have not existed for a very long time.
Now it all about feeding the beast to allow it to grow and gain more power. Most uniformed cops just see the population as a whole as a way to fund their own existence, it's 100% taught to be 'us vs. them', piss us off and we'll 'protect and serve the shite out of you'.
When blatant violations of the most basic rights are swept aside with Qualified Immunity, and LEO's become judge, jury, and literally the executioner.

The growth of government in general is bad for society. As government continues to grow it becomes authoritarian. This is unavoidable, as each institution strives primarily for its on flourishing. Eventually people become afraid of the government instead of the other way around.

Cops are nothing more than a sanitation crew with guns. Think about it. Your house gets burglarized.....you call the cops after the fact. Most domestic disturbances have the police coming in after the assault and battery to sort things out. Murders....they come afterwards to draw the chalkline around the dead body. Drugs....mostly getting low level guys after the area has gone to hell.
Ask any police officer and he will tell you as much.
Yet we as a society think.....more cops on the streets, give the cops the "tools" they need. So we give them APCs, AR 15s, body armor, body cams, tasers, etc. Training to be quasi social workers. All of it is designed to mop up after things have gone to shite.

Happens every time. A significant percentage of people in a country abandon God - the country descends into chaos and violence. Whereupon to protect themselves against crime of every sort, they create for themselves a police state. Instead of electing Constitutionalist, they elect socialist marxist who enact legislation to strip them of their 2nd and lst Amendment rights. Unable to defend themselves against lawless demoniacs, the police state takes away their right to own weapons - and confiscates privately owned weapons. Happens every time.
...if men were angels.

The ‘nullification’ of LE re particular supposedly systematically-aggrieved groups is bad for society. It’s classic Marxist Egalitarian revolution and as such can not be addressed in a political process as the basic issue is polar and a zero sum game. Individual Freedom vs Collectivist Totalitarianism.

You know how I know you know absolutely nothing about criminal justice? It’s when you make stupid statements like defund the police.
The problem with CJ isn’t really the police. It’s everything else in the system that can’t manage the numbers of criminal that go through the system. It’s jails, Courts, community corrections, treatment programs and prisons. Police technically arrest more than the system can effectively handle.
It’s also over criminalization of behavior. Too many behaviors are felonies. We need to reform our laws and downgrade behaviors to make less of them felonious behavior which attaches a permanent stigma to the defendant.
Yes, I have an LSU Criminal Justice degree and 33 years in the field.
